Position Overview

The technical editor will be responsible for providing editorial review and document formatting of client deliverables. Additionally, the technical editor will be an integral part of the technical editing resources group supporting EA. In this part of their role, they will actively participate in creating training and informational materials as well as providing general company-wide support to continue the progress of overall quality of EA technical documents.


Responsibilities

Using appropriate style guides and good editorial decision-making skills, the technical editor will be responsible for:



  • Checking grammar, spelling, and formatting.
  • Evaluating the overall editorial quality of each written deliverable.
  • Offering advice to authors on formatting, organization, writing style, and other issues when deliverables are being prepared.
  • Ensuring that:
    o Document reflects company policy and style.
    o Client-specific requirements are met.
    o Required elements are included and correct.
    o Text and graphics conform to visual requirements.
    o Text is clear and presented effectively.
    o Document is complete and comprehensible.
    o Contents; lists of tables, figures, abbreviations, and appendices; header and footers; and page numbering are in order and accurate.
  • Working collaboratively with other technical editors to schedule editorial reviews, create engaging materials to promote good technical report authoring, and being available to EA employees for various technical editing and formatting questions or problems.


Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in English or science-related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in technical editing and formatting technical documentation; OR Associate's degree in English or related field and a minimum of 10 years of experience in technical editing and formatting technical documentation
* Good technical writing skills to help identify issues with clarity and suggest rework of text as appropriate
* Strong Microsoft Suite skills (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
* Experience using Word templates and built-in styles
* Experience with Adobe products; strong pdf compilation skills and preference for InDesign skills
* Experience managing coauthoring efforts in SharePoint
* High level of attention to detail
* Good time management skills
* Ability to work both independently and with a team to meet deadlines


Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with technical documents in the environmental field, particularly site investigation, characterization, and remediation.
  • Section 508 compliance experience


Note: This position requires specific driving duties. You must be able to pass a motor vehicle records check required by our insurer.

Pay Range
$50,000 $60,000 USD

The EA pay range for this position is intended as a general guideline and does not guarantee specific compensation or salary. Factors considered when making an offer include job responsibilities, education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, alignment with market data, and compliance with federal and state laws.
