The expected hiring range for this position is:

$77,600.00-$110,267.00.

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such the scope and responsibilities of the position, qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.

    Relocation will be offered for this opportunity. Candidates must reside or be willing to move to the Chicago area or surrounding suburbs.

    About the Role:

    Fermilab's Information Technology Division seeks an experienced Oracle Database Administrator (Database Administrator Analyst II) to join their team. The selected candidate will apply their advanced skills in database administration in support of the Laboratory's mission by supporting our scientific and non-scientific communities. This individual will act as a main contact and liaison for database system and operational problem investigations providing guidance and training to less experienced team members.

    What your day-to-day as an Oracle Database Administrator (Database Administrator Analyst II) at Fermilab will look like:

    • Design, create, develop, modify, implement and administer business and/or scientific databases ensuring the integrity and accessibility for the acquisition, storage, and retrieval of data.

    • Develop specifications for several large, inter-related projects and implement them and provide oversight of their implementation.

    • Contribute to and lead database maintenance efforts, regularly collecting requirements and information from vendors and users for specific projects and ongoing operations.

    • Analyze and define data requirements and specifications.

    • Be responsible for quality control by auditing database integrity to ensure accurate and proper use of data.

    • Interact with management to develop database strategies to support the Lab's mission.

    • Interact directly with users to resolve data conflicts or database performance problems.

    • Select methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for acquiring results.

    • Provide coordination between multiple projects or teams.

    • Analyze and plan for anticipated changes in data capacity requirements.

    • Develop and administer data standards, policies and procedures.

    • Provide technical leadership and expertise within the team and to outside project teams when requested.

    • Communicate and describe work details and relevant technical matters, in written and oral form.

    • Identify and resolve complex problems.

    • Contribute to and lead projects of moderate scope or phases of larger projects and interact with other project layers, as assigned.

    • Be responsible for operational and/or maintenance activities for one or more specific projects as assigned.

    • Abide by and be responsible for performing all duties as assigned and in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.

    Required Skills and Attributes for Success:

    • High School Diploma with 3+ years of experience in database administration or demonstrated ability in data systems.

    • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with 1+ year of database experience.

    Applicable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    • Recent experience successfully installing, patching, tuning, and administering Oracle databases, preferred.

    • Working experience administering Oracle Apex and/or OBIEE databases a plus.

    • Experience with Oracle Fusion Middleware products like WebLogic is a plus.

    • Proficient in UNIX/Linux shell scripting.

    • Proven ability to learn and become effective with new technologies and applications.

    • Excellent oral and written communication skills plus the ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization.

    • Proven mastery of troubleshooting techniques and ability to solve problems quickly.

    • Demonstrated ability to create innovative solutions.

    • Excellent decision-making skills always.

    • Willingness to foster an environment of learning, progression, and accountability.

    • Ability to function as an effective team member.

    Work Arrangement:

    Please note that the described work arrangement is subject to change based on business needs and is not guaranteed to be final.

    • Onsite: This is an onsite role, and the candidate must be able to work from our Batavia office.
