Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world's leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking to hire a Competitive Intelligence Research Analyst reporting to the Senior Manager, Competitive Intelligence.

The Analyst will be responsible for interacting with a local and virtual team of colleagues and using an extensive collection of internal and external resources to gather, filter, analyze, organize, package and deliver business and competitive intelligence information necessary to support firm, practice, industry and client development.

This position will reside in either our Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, New York, Orange County, Philadelphia or Washington DC office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.

Responsibilities:

Research

  • Identifies potential areas of cross-selling and promotional opportunities in providing legal services to new and existing clients/markets.

  • Analyzes external data as it relates to current and potential clients, industries and practices.

  • Monitors legal industry trends such as economic, political and regulatory trends impacting the legal community, and their relevance to Firm initiatives.

  • Conducts research related to geographical expansion and lateral hiring groups.

  • Participates in research projects in response to patron needs, Conducts research to support client pitches and provides needed information for responding to RFPs.

  • Allocates time and resources among the various components of the CI cycle (planning, collection, processing, analysis, dissemination), with the majority of the time spent on secondary data collection and analysis.

  • Performs in-depth legal, corporate, financial and/or general research using LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Monitor Suite, S&P Capital IQ, Mergermarket, Lex Machina or other sources and keeps current with new online research methods.

Presentation/Products

  • Uses appropriate tools and technology to gather and disseminate CI deliverables through email, print reports, personal delivery and presentations.

  • Creates and distributes a variety of CI products - analytical reports with Executive Summaries, client and company profiles, competitive benchmarking, and market and industry reports.

  • Develops templates that provide client/competitor information to use on a regular basis

  • Upholds and promotes CI industry ethical standards.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • MLIS, JD, MBA or equivalent degree.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a research-focused role in a law firm or other professional services environment, including experience researching and analyzing litigation, intellectual property, companies, industries, and markets.

  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Advanced skills using research tools such as LexisNexis, Westlaw, Bloomberg Law, Monitor Suite, S&P Capital IQ, Mergermarket, and Lex Machina.

  • Must demonstrate project management skills, strong customer service skills, planning/organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication, be a self-starter, have the ability to adapt to change and balance competing demands and to interact with all levels of management and departments.

For positions in Chicago, IL, the salary range for this job posting is: $80,500.00 - $128,800.00.

For positions in Los Angeles and Orange County, CA, the salary range for this job posting is:$87,800.00 - $140,450.00.

For positions in New York, NY, the salary range for this job posting is: $91,500.00 - $146,325.00

For positions in Washington, DC, the salary range for this job posting is:$84,200.00 - $134,600.00.

The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, the employee will be in an "at-will position" and the firm reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, firm or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
