About the Role

The Equipment Manager will play a vital role in supporting the efficient operation of the Equipment and Fleet departments with all companies associated with MWH. This role will be responsible for processing and coding invoices, managing fleet vehicle data, handling administrative tasks related to Fleet employees, and maintaining accurate records for billing, taxes, and equipment. Additionally, this role will provide support to all MWH's equipment shops with various administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities

Essential Functions



  • Execute the daily operational, day-to-day goals and priorities assigned by the Shop Foreman.
  • Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with equipment.
  • Drive a service truck out in the field and handle the maintenance and repairs of construction equipment on job sites.
  • Maintain and repair heavy diesel, gas, hydraulic, and electrically operated equipment and vehicles.
  • Assist in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedules.
  • Utilize a variety of power tools, hand tools, and heavy equipment.
  • Read schematic drawings as needed.
  • Perform electronic diagnostics to identify mechanical, operational, and/or electrical issues and malfunctions and perform necessary repairs.
  • Communicate diagnostic findings, plan of action, and parts necessary to make repairs.
  • Recognize and operate tools and equipment common to heavy equipment repairs and maintenance, including electronic diagnostic equipment.
  • Test drive vehicles to diagnose problems and to ensure that they operate properly.
  • Actively maintain records related to the service and maintenance of vehicles/equipment.
  • Assist when needed in the Garage/Yard, including:

    • Assist in data entry, DOT logs, IFTA logs, etc.
    • Clean and organize the shop
    • Help with snow removal when needed
    • Identify and pursue opportunities to save time and increase productivity





Basic Qualifications



  • High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a vocational or technical program in heavy equipment mechanics is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, with a strong understanding of various types of heavy machinery.


  • Proficient knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related components.
  • Certification in heavy equipment maintenance or a relevant field is an asset.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Physical strength and agility to handle heavy equipment parts and tools.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Class A CDL.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with fleet management and tracking software, such as HCSS, is a plus.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
