Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Automation, the Injection Molding Systems Continuous Improvement Engineer (IMS CI Engineer) is responsible to lead initiatives that enhance the performance, reliability, and deployment speed of plastic injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment. This role will focus on leveraging data, lean methodologies, and cross functional collaboration to optimize machine capabilities and reduce installation and commissioning timelines. The IMS CI Engineer will use Six Sigma tools to analyze and support recommendations for machine improvements and cost saving projects.

Essential Functions:



  • Evaluate and unlock full potential of injection molding machines and auxiliary systems (e.g., injection molding presses, thermolators, dryers, conveyors and material handling system)
  • Lead calibration and capability studies to ensure machines operate at peak performance
  • Develop and implement standardization installation protocols to reduce time-to-production
  • Coordinate with Planning, Automation, Tooling, and Process Engineering teams to streamline equipment commissioning and validation
  • Drive CI initiatives targeting OEE, scrap reduction, and cycle time improvements on Injection Molding equipment and auxiliaries
  • Apply lean tools such as 5S, Kamishibai, and Kanban to improve and minimize machine downtime associated with new equipment installations.
  • Participate in project hand off processes that require process optimization, process flow, and assisting with training as required.
  • Comply with all quality and safety regulations in compliance with OSHA and HellermannTyton policy
  • Partner with OEM's and internal teams to script and validate advanced controller functions
  • Responsible for ensuring that all injection molding operations and associated auxiliary systems comply with internal quality protocols and external regulatory standards.


Other Functions:



  • Coordinate with external vendors to schedule and execute trials and demonstrations of new equipment, processes, and technologies
  • Utilize MES system (Mattec) to monitor real-time scrap, downtime, and performance trends
  • Work closely with Maintenance, Automation, and Process Engineering teams to identify and resolve systemic issues
  • Support training and upskilling of technicians on new equipment and CI tools
  • Attend all meeting with cross-functional teams to review project work and direction
  • Lend support through training and technical advice to help other technicians become more efficient
  • All employees entering the manufacturing area and other identified locations must wear the designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as a condition of employment.
  • Assist in developing improved equipment layouts, cable management, and part containment.


Key Competencies:



  • Technical Expertise- Strong knowledge of injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment and scientific molding principles.
  • Analytical Skills- Proficiency in data analysis tools and MES platforms
  • Lean Manufacturing- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and project management skills
  • Problem Solving- Ability to Identify and resolve systematic issues in collaboration with cross functional teams
  • Communication- Effective communication skills to coordinate with various departments and lead training sessions
  • Continuous Improvement- Ability to drive CI initiatives targeting OEE, scrap reduction, and cycle time
  • Safety Compliance- Knowledge of quality and safety regulations in compliance with OSHA and company policies


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in maintenance or automation injection molding related equipment and engineering
  • Strong knowledge of injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and scientific molding principles
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and project management
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and MES platforms
  • Familiarity with RJG or Master Molder certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as technical specifications, schematics, and ladder logic
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt is preferred
  • Ability for overnight travel by air or land as needed.
  • Must have a valid drivers license, with an acceptable driving record, along with adequate insurance
