JOB TITLE:

Assistant Professor

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming College of Engineering and Physical Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Physics and Astronomy beginning in January 2026. Applicants in all fields of astrophysics and astronomy are encouraged to apply.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Establishing a strong, independent research program, including mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in research; publishing regularly and garnering sufficient extramural funding to maintain a research group; and teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in astronomy/physics across the curriculum.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have a PhD in astronomy/physics or a closely related discipline and a minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience by the time of hire.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A strong record of scholarship in astronomy
  • Experience teaching physics/astronomy
  • Experience mentoring students
  • Experience writing grant proposals.
