Position Summary
The Program Director position oversees the programmatic development and operations of the Standardized Patient Program and Simulation Program at University of Illinois Health Sciences Education Campus. This includes: development and recruitment of staff and standardized patients, training and development of same, planning of programs, budget/finances, business development, and center accreditation. This position will have primary responsibility of the Standardized Patient Program and Simulation Program for the College of Medicine in Rockford, its affiliated residency programs, and collaborates with programs which share the Health Sciences Education campus.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversees the day-to-day operations of the Simulation and Standardized Patient Program in the College of Medicine Rockford.
  • Collaborates with comparable staff and faculty at the Peoria and Chicago campuses to ensure comparability of assessments and events for curriculum.
  • Assists in the creation, interpretation, development, and implementation of policies and procedures of the standardized patient and simulation programs.
  • Provides primary support to the Assistant Dean of Medical Education & Evaluation in the operations and development of the standardized patient and simulation programs at UICOM Rockford. Must be able to assume full direction administration and operational matters of the standardized patient and simulation programs in the absence of the Assistant Dean.
  • Assists in the development and testing of innovative Human- based simulation approaches along with the Associate Director of Simulation, Medical Education Program Specialist for Standardized Patient and Simulation, and Clinical Faculty.
  • Leads the development and implementation of simulation programs, workshops, and one-on-one consultations.
  • Develops new clients, project proposals and staffing requirements.
  • Leads the recruitment, orientation, and evaluation of employees related to the simulation and standardized patient program at UICOM Rockford. Manages personnel and organizational needs for these programs.
  • Manages and oversees the work of the Medical Education Program Specialist for Standardized Patient and Simulation programs to oversee the coordination and scheduling of events.
  • Ensures training of Standardized Patients meets the standards and policies of the program, campus, and university.
  • Sets the goals, objectives, and policies/procedures necessary for comprehensive SP training and evaluation and simulation programs.
  • Prepares and manages project budgets and financial reports as needed.
  • Performs other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Minimum Qualifications

    1. Bachelor's degree.
    2. A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
    3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

      Additional education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization:
    • Education and training, and/or must be in an education, science or medical related field. Work experience must involve medical education, simulation, or clinical skills training to learners.
    • Must have at least 1 year experience working clinically (e.g. EMT/Paramedic, Physician Assistance, Nursing, Physician)


    The budgeted salary range for the position is $65,000 - $85,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
