Job Requirements
The Data Analyst I supports the modernization of data reporting and statistical operations for the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Homeland Security Statistics (OHSS). This role focuses on data analysis, report automation, and development of technical documentation to drive actionable insights and operational improvements. Impact: This role enables efficient and accurate reporting through data visualization, dashboard creation, and statistical analysis. It supports IT initiatives that streamline operations and inform strategic decisions. The analyst contributes to project milestones by enhancing data infrastructure and analytical outputs that impact stakeholders at all levels. Responsibilities:
- Support IT projects and initiatives related to reporting and operational improvements, including modernization of the reporting production line.
- Assist with ongoing and ad-hoc reporting needs based on management priorities, including automation strategy and potential technology adoption.
- Support the development and maintenance of technical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), ensuring alignment with federal best practices and continuous improvement based on operational feedback.
- Contribute to documentation, quality assurance, and data management tasks to support solution development and delivery.
- Document procedures and methodology used in analysis.
- Analyze data toanswer questions across a variety of domains, identify trends and generate predictive insights using dashboards and data visualizations to tell a story.
- Collaborate with SMEs to interpret analytical results and to present findings verbally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.
Work Experience
Skills and Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum 1 year (or more) of experience as an IT Systems Analyst or similar role, with demonstrated expertise in analyzing, designing, and implementing technology solutions.
- Proficient in Python, R, or SAS for data manipulation and visualization.
- Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
- Knowledge of Java and modern web frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) is a plus.
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and automation tools.
- Experience in cross-functional and agile environments supporting federal or enterprise clients.
- Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
- Skilled in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Effective communicator, able to bridge business and technical discussions.
- Collaborative team player with a proactive problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new technologies and domains.
- Knowledge of federal reporting standards and best practices is a plus.
Additional Qualifications and Project Specific Needs:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
- Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings, which may involve driving or flying.
- Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
- Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

- Min: $67,647
- Mid: $86,249
- Max: $104,852
- Hiring Range: $67,647- $91,793
