I.Position Summary:

The Lead DI Nurse Navigator is dual full-time role which acts as lead nurse in the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) department along with being a liaison between Nursing (Emergency Department) and the Director of DI. This position will spend on average 32 hours during the week in DI. This position will consist of dividing time between clinical and administration duties based on the daily procedures in DI and the Emergency Department. In DI, this position will help to supervise nursing staff and coordinate monthly schedules for DI Nurses. This position will assist with onboarding new caregivers, monitoring annual competencies, and training new caregivers. This position will be required to maintain an open and fluid communication channel between providers, nurses and the IR booking team for effective patient flow and experience. This position will assist the Director of Diagnostic Imaging with other tasks to improve clinical practice and customer services. Working as a RN Navigator, this position will review all Diagnostic Imaging results completed after patient discharges in the Emergency Department. The nurse will navigate and report any variations to the attending Emergency Department provider along with acting as a liaison to the patients and Emergency Department providers as needed.

II. Major Responsibilities:

1. Utilizes the Nursing Process for the delivery and management of patient's care from Admission to Discharge, appropriate to the developmental age of the patient population.
2. Performs patient assessment/reassessment according to standard procedure.
3. Develops and coordinates individual plan of care including discharge planning.
4. Directs, supervises, coordinates and evaluate nursing care within assigned clinical setting.
5. Delegates appropriately to others in accordance with job description and competency level.
6. Documents patient care according to standard procedure.
7. Develops, implements/coordinates and documents Education Plan for patient/family/ significant other.
8. Ensures quality and continuity of care through collaboration with other health care providers.
9. Administers medications, performs treatments, therapies and operates equipment according to policy and procedure. Assists physician with treatment and procedures and special tests as required or directed.
10. Participates in and supports Nursing Governance activities.
11. Assumes responsibility for professional growth. Assists in education and development of staff.
12. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrate the use of quality improvement in daily operations.

Standard Lead Level Responsibilities:
1. Distributes and monitors the flow of work for an assigned group of employees. Provides training and technical assistance to employees within the assigned work area. Assists supervisor in assuring that assigned employees are provided with appropriate resources, materials, and methods. Provides recommendations to manager or supervisor for the most efficient utilization of assigned personnel. Relays work instruction from the supervisor.
2. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
3. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients, and visitors.
4. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
5. Demonstrates use of quality improvement in daily operations.
6. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
7. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
8. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

III. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

1. Current Massachusetts Nursing licensure and registration with no restrictions.
2. BLS (American Heart Association) is a requirement for every RN unless advance cardiac life support (ACLS) certification is current, in addition to any unit specific certifications and competencies.
3. ACLS (AHA) certification
4. PALS (AHA) certification required within in 6 months of hire.

Preferred:

1. Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing highly preferred.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

1. A minimum of 1 year experience in Interventional Radiology and/or a minimum of 2 years of adult Critical Care experience.
Preferred:
1. Prior experience with direct physician and advanced practitioners' communication regarding imaging and care findings.
2. Able to work with multiple specialties and a strong clinical background
3. Strong computer skills and EHR navigation
4. Self-motivated with the ability to work in a remote setting
5. Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
6. Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
7. Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

IV. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions
Please note: many cases require the RN to wear lead aprons for radiation safety. The RN must be physically able to bear the weight of the lead aprons intra-procedurally (for the duration of their shift)
