Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking an Senior Systems Engineer with extensive space, missile defense, and requirements development/traceability experience to provide Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance (SETA) support to the Missile Defense Agency/Space Capabilities (MDA/DCS) Directorate at Schriever Space Force Base (SFB) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This 100% on-site position is primarily responsible for supporting the MDA/DCS Chief Engineer and MDA/DCS Program Managers for the development and integration of new capabilities into the Missile Defense System (MDS). Candidate must be a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic environment, can accomplish high-level tasks independently, and works well with other team members and customers.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Your essential job functions will include, but may not be limited to:
  • Provide integration support for the acquisition, development, sustainment and verification of systems, software, and equipment using MDA Engineering processes, the Systems Engineering process ("V" diagram), and Agile processes.
  • Support MDS system engineering process from architecture definition, requirements development (PCNs, SCNs), up to and including development of Element Specs and ICDs.
  • Translate user requirements into system requirements.
  • Document system requirements, key performance parameters, and measures of performance in Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).
  • Evaluate requirement verifications proposed by prime contractors.
  • Document requirements and traceability IAW MDA standards (e.g., Trace Certification Memorandum).
  • Prepare and review various engineering documentation and executive-level decision papers, to include: Systems Engineering Master Plan, interface control documents, system specifications, and requirements documents
  • Develop, assess, and present program risks and maintain a risk register.
  • Works with Element analysts to identify program data needs for requirements definition, accessing requirements satisfaction, and meeting design suitability requirements.
  • Develops products to support engineering technical reviews in accordance with MDA Instruction 5000.20-INS, "Engineering Technical Review Process"
  • Supports space sensor and constellation-level architecture analysis to support integration into broader MDS architectures and Enterprise (multi-agency) architectures.
  • Provides coordination and support to other MDA organizations for analysis of space systems' contribution to regional and homeland defense scenarios.
  • Support element engineering review processes including Engineering Review Boards (ERBs) and Configuration Control Boards.
  • Provide advice and assistance to leadership and the team on problems, issues, and projects for assigned programs.
  • Apply engineering solutions to improve operations and/or resolve unique or complex problems and issues.
  • Document engineering activities, including writing reports, analyzing data, creating/understanding schedules, and making recommendations to the leadership and team
  • Provide planning, integration and technical program baseline management
  • Provide technical support in the execution of MDA engineering processes through all phases of the MDS acquisition lifecycle
  • Prepare technical analyses and risk assessment in support of the MDA Acquisition Framework
  • Apply disciplined systems engineering practices (requirements identification, architecture development, and validation/verification)
  • Support development of employment for Space Sensors systems, including consideration for warfighter operationalization
Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or related field with 20 years' experience, or Master's degree with 12 years of experience in related field.
Required Skills:
  • 12+ years of experience in DoD (mandatory) or MDA (preferred) systems engineering and technical support to program management
  • Experience in Digital Engineering
  • Experience in developing system requirements/specifications, engineering management plans, and interface control documents
  • Ability to depict technical approaches, designs, block diagrams, algorithms, and implementations in written and graphical form
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite, including Excel, Powerpoint and Project
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of space or missile defense system design, operations, testing, and deployment
  • DoD Level III certified in Systems Engineering (SPRD&E) or equivalent
  • Training in systems engineering processes (INCOSE, PMI, or similar credential)
  • 5+ years of MDA and DoD acquisition experience.
  • Experience with DOORS, SysML and Cameo/Rhapsody
Security Clearance Level Required:
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with Special Access Program (SAP) eligibility is required for this position.
  • U.S. Citizenship is also required for this position.
The pay range for this position in Colorado is $120K/year to $180K/year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on established government contract ranges, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, and other factors. MTSI also offers a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered. Base pay information is based on market location.
