Position Highlights

The Gut Brain Laboratory has a position for an individual to perform vagal cuff electrophysiology experiments as directed by the principal investigator. The temporary employee will be responsible for assisting with experimental setup, data collection, and basic data organization following established protocols. This role requires attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a team, providing an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in electrophysiology techniques within a structured research environment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Vagal cuff electrophysiology experiment support:

  • Assist the Principal Investigator and other researchers with the setup of vagal cuff electrophysiology experiments according to established protocols.
  • Prepare necessary equipment, solutions, and biological samples for experiments.
  • Ensure all experimental setups are accurate and ready for data collection.

Data collection and recording:

  • Perform data collection during electrophysiology experiments as directed, following detailed protocols.
  • Accurately record experimental observations and raw data.
  • Maintain detailed logs and records of all experimental data.

Basic data organization and maintenance:

  • Organize collected experimental data following established laboratory procedures.
  • Assist with basic data entry and file management to ensure data integrity and accessibility.
  • Provide routine administrative support related to data organization, such as labeling and record-keeping.

Laboratory equipment maintenance and preparation:

  • Clean, sterilize, and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and glassware used in electrophysiology experiments.
  • Assist with troubleshooting basic equipment issues under supervision.
  • Ensure the laboratory workspace is tidy and organized.

Effective communication:

  • Participate in weekly team laboratory meetings.
  • Provide feedback to the team on participant progress and problems/solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Prior work experience not required.
