Johnson County Mental Health Center is looking for a qualified applicant to fill the position of Claims Specialist. The mission of the Johnson County Mental Health Center (MHC) is to improve the quality of life for Johnson County residents by providing comprehensive mental health services that are of the highest possible quality, driven by the needs of persons served, provided in the least intrusive manner, easily assessable to all residents, provided in collaboration with community partners, and accountable to our community and the public trust through the efficient and effective use of resources. The Claims Specialist position is responsible for posting 3rd party insurance payments. First review of applications will begin on September 1st.



Job Description

Additional duties include:

    Posts payments received from 3rd party payers into billing software from EOB's provided by vendor, accurately matching payment with correct client account and event within 2 business days following deposit date. Combines original supporting documents and attaches deposit report. Posts claim denials included in EOB's or separate denial correspondence to applicable client account and event with accuracy within 2 business days following receipt of EOB or denial correspondence.
  • Communicates verbally and in writing with internal and external contacts in order to resolve discrepancies and exchange or update information. Notifies staff regarding the readiness and availability of scanned document records.
  • Prepares standard and customized reports. Prints Deposit Report from billing software following completion of payment posting; reconciles Deposit Report with same day daily deposit entered in Oracle.
  • Maintains and updates files; gathers and collates records to compile information. Scans Deposit Reports, EOBs, denial correspondence, and supporting documentation; files using specified naming conventions.
  • Reviews, reconciles, compiles, tracks, and processes accounting transactions involving cash, receipts, invoices, requisitions, vouchers, journal entries, expense reports, and other similar items for approval; using established guidelines, analyzes and evaluates revenues or expenditures of a department fund or budget unit to determine the maximum allowable reimbursement or claim and reports information; researches and corrects accounting errors and discrepancies to ensure accurate accounting.


Job Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year in bookkeeping, accounting, or administrative functions involving record keeping or relevant area experience are required.

Associate's degree in Accounting or relevant field and one (1) year experience processing electronic and paper health insurance payments is preferred.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Physical, Environmental, and Special Working Conditions:
All County employees may be called upon to assist other departments/agencies in a declared emergency situation.
