Position Description

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics in the Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor in Industrial Organization (IO) to begin January 1, 2026.

About the College

The Davis College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources is comprised of seven academic departments. The College promotes and supports multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and inter-institutional research programs. Cooperative relationships exist between the College and Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension and USDA-ARS.

About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics currently has 21 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, two professors of practice, one adjunct faculty, 525 undergraduate students, and 106 graduate students. The Department offers B.S. degrees in Agribusiness and Agricultural and Applied Economics as well as a concentration in International Agribusiness with programs in Latin America, Asia, and Europe; M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Agricultural and Applied Economics, and a Master of Agribusiness. Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics, you will be expected to develop an internationally recognized research, teaching, and graduate mentoring program in theoretical and empirical industrial organization. We seek applicants with analytical skills and expertise in microeconomic theory, industrial organization, game theory, and current empirical methods to conduct research in competition, market structure, conduct, performance, regulation, pricing strategies, econometric models analyzing firm-level and industry-level issues, mergers, and antitrust issues.

Duties include teaching and advising undergraduate and graduate students, attracting external funding, publishing research results in reputed national and international peer-reviewed agricultural economics and economics journals, and service to the department, college, and university.

Faculty Qualifications


  1. A Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or a similar field.
  2. Demonstrated excellence in oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills as evidenced by articles submitted or published in professional economics or agricultural economics journals.
  3. Excellent training in theoretical and empirical industrial organization, microeconomic theory, game theory, and econometrics.

Preferred Qualifications


  1. Experience working with large firm-level and industry-level datasets.
  2. A proven capacity or a record indicative of scholarships and publications in reputable journals.
  3. A proven track record or a record indicative of securing extramural federal funding.
  4. Demonstrated ability or a record indicative of teaching excellence at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
  5. Clear understanding of American production agriculture and background in mergers and acquisitions, antitrust, consolidation, ag law, and the legal system related to food production and marketing
  6. Familiarity with USDA, DOJ, and FTC data and merger guidelines
  7. Demonstrated ability or a record indicative of working independently and collaboratively with colleagues and teams as evidenced by jointly authored journal articles or funded federal grants.
