Job Summary:

The Associate Engineer/Scientist is an entry level contributor who supports the development of engineered particles for pipeline products. This role works closely with senior scientists and engineers. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in science or engineering and a passion for hands-on laboratory work in a collaborative environment.


Essential duties, key job responsibilities and essential functions.


  • Support formulation development of engineered particle dosage forms
  • Assist in the development of manufacturing processes for engineered particle dosage forms
  • Participate in batch manufacture for development and pre-clinical studies
  • Perform physiochemical property characterization of solid-based inhalation dosage forms
  • Design, execute, and interpret experiments to support formulation and process development with supervision
  • Document, compile, review and present data with guidance.
  • Handle hazardous materials and chemicals in accordance with MannKind's safety policies and procedures
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Comply with good laboratory practice including maintenance of laboratory notebooks and written procedures
  • Observe all Company, Health, Safety, and Environmental guidelines.


Duties and responsibilities are not limited to the work listed above and may include other Assignments.

(Where reference is made to regulatory environment requirements and/or compliance this includes all applicable regulations i.e. FDA, ISO 13485/9001, European requirements, etc.)

Minimum qualifications to perform the job; specific skills, education, knowledge and job experience necessary to perform essential duties; physical requirements for job if any.


  • Minimum of a BS/BA in Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field and 0-2 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Strong foundation in science and engineering principles
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in following instructions
  • Experience with general laboratory procedures
  • Proficiency in documenting data and procedures
  • Demonstrates eagerness to learn new techniques and procedures.
  • Willingness to work safely with potent compounds, including use of personal protective equipment such as N95 respirators and protective gowning.
  • Team-oriented with ability to work with other technical staff
  • Ability to effectively manage time to meet tight timelines and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with graphing and data analysis software (i.e. JMP, Matlab, Minitab) is a plus
  • Familiarity/experience with particle engineering and/or spray drying is a plus




Pay Range: $49,600 - $74,400 per year
