Job Description

Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Community Employment Specialist. JCDS serves people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and provides both day and residential services. We focus on individuals' abilities, provide choice driven supports, and advocate alongside people to live and work in our community. We aspire to build a community that promotes, supports, and embraces people of all abilities. Community Employment Specialists are responsible for providing community employment services.

Job duties include:

    Provide customized employment support including assessment of skills and interests, resume and job application assistance, and individualized job search planning.
  • Identify competitive employment opportunities, conduct job analyses, engage employers, monitor progress on job sites, and provide intervention to ensure successful employment outcomes.
  • Conduct intake interviews and discovery activities to evaluate participants' employment preferences, skill levels, accommodation needs, and support systems. Interprets and communicates relevant information to individuals families and other stakeholders.
  • Market JCDS services to area employers to build and maintain a network of business partners for current and prospective job seekers.
  • Develop measurable and realistic employment plans with actionable steps to help participants meet their vocational goals.
  • Provide advocacy and skills training as needed to support the independence and success of participants. Ensures services provided are consistent with individual plans; initiates and attends individual and/ or group meetings; provides transportation of individuals according to the needs identified in plans.
  • Identify and utilize community settings for job exploration, assessments, observation, and employment opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation (including billing), complete and submit individual monthly progress notes, and remain in compliance with Kansas Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and department reporting requirements.
  • Conduct regular follow-up meetings with participants to review progress, address barriers, and revise goals as needed.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.


Job Requirements

Associate's degree in Human Services or related field and one year of related work experience are required. Requires a valid drivers license and good driving record.

Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field is preferred.

Experience may be substituted for degree. Education may be substituted for experience.

Candidate must be able to successfully pass background screenings which includes KDADS required screenings.
