HSE Safety Technician

Position requires monthly and annual inspection of life safety equipment including fire extinguishers (water, carbon dioxide, dry chemical and specialty types), emergency lighting and exit signs as well as special assignments assigned by the supervisor/Fire Chief. Timely completion of written inspection reports is required as is the ability to recognize and correct problems with equipment either by the inspector or by notifying the proper individual.

Requirements:

* Complete monthly and annual inspections of fire extinguishers placed in multiple locations in EBP buildings and complete written inspection reports. Initiate repairs as necessary.
* Replace extinguishers that have an expired hydro-test date, need repair or have been discharged. Assist in the preparation and shipment of extinguishers to vendor for hydro-test inspection, repair and/or recharging.
* Complete monthly inspection of lighted exit signs and emergency lighting in EBP buildings. Complete written inspection reports. Initiate repairs as necessary.
* Complete monthly inspections of eyebaths and safety showers.
* Complete special projects assigned by the KFD Fire Chief/Supervisor or his designee.

* Significant walking and stair climbing
* Ability to routinely lift up to 50 lbs.
* Proper written record keeping
* NYS Driver License
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
* Operate a hand jack (training provided as necessary)

Knowledge:

• Familiarity with life safety equipment.
• Familiarity with inspection procedures.
• Attention to detail and the ability to be self-directed
