Pay Rate/Range: The budgeted hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $23.23/hr. to $28.89/hr. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of fair, equitable, and consistent pay practices at the University. The full hourly range for this position is $23.23/hr. to $30.66/hr.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
Performs general duties related to the maintenance and operations of the portable and recycled water irrigation systems, both manual and automatic, throughout the campus.

Required Qualifications:

  • 1 - 5 years experience performing a variety of advanced semi-skilled irrigation duties including installing, repairing, and maintaining manual and automatic irrigation systems and related equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • 5 Years with commercial irrigation systems

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Spends prolonged periods of time digging by hand to expose irrigation pipes, valves and wiring.
  • Spends prolonged periods of time squatting in excavated holes repairing pipes, valves and wiring.
  • This entails working in awkward positions, kneeling for long periods of time, working in wet conditions, and forcefully gripping a range of hand and power tools.
  • Spends long periods of time seated on mowers and other equipment, with exposure to heat, cold, and other weather changes.
  • Required to hold a valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies and procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Satisfactory criminal history background check

Job Functions and Percentages of Time:
50% Irrigation Systems Maintenance - Maintains existing irrigation systems, performing necessary installations, repairs and replacement of sprinkler heads, valves, piping, controllers, wiring, and related equipment. Consults construction drawings to verify existing installations or layout of new systems. Operates a variety of hand and power tools in wet conditions when repairing irrigation. Uses Dingo loader/excavator and multiple attachments. In emergency cases, uses backhoe to excavate for repairs when this is more efficient. May place concrete to install thrust blocks on large diameter irrigation piping.

40% System Monitoring - Monitors operation of irrigation systems, making necessary adjustments to sprinkler heads, valves and controllers to insure proper coverage and watering cycles.

10% Safety - Ensures that proper safety barricades, fencing, and signs are in place on the job site. Complies with FM's safety program.
