The Role We are looking for a detail-oriented and analytical individual to work on our Claims team as a Medical Care Analyst. In this role, you will report to the Senior Medical Care Analyst and be responsible for reviewing and analyzing medical professional liability claims and supporting the claims examiners/claims team in their review and assessment of cases. You will organize and analyze records with regard to liability and causation, obtain expert reviews, and participate in expert review communication and video conferencing calls. You will also review expert testimony and depositions for relevance and efficacy. Key Result Areas
- Organize and prepare medical records and other legal documents for medical expert review
- Communicate with medical experts and aid in obtaining expert reviews to assess standard of care and causation issues
- Review expert testimony and depositions and develop an expert database for use by claims staff and defense counsel
- Conduct standard of care research using Up to Date, sources from the National Library of Medicine and other sources for use by claims staff and defense counsel
- Aid in preparation and coordination of digital focus groups for claim analysis
- Analyze claims data to identify and interpret trends and emerging clinical issues
Key Skills
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple complex projects and competing priorities
- Proficiency in document and records management systems (BOX, ShareFile) and medical imaging review tools (DICOM)
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise analyses, reports, and case summaries
- Advanced critical thinking and analytical skills for evaluating medical records, liability issues, and expert testimony
- Solid computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe; experience with claims or litigation platforms (eOasis, Sunlight, OnBase) is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with claims staff, defense counsel, and medical experts
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in nursing with experience in medical malpractice, claims review, or medico-legal casework OR Paralegal certificate or degree with demonstrated experience in medical malpractice, healthcare litigation, or medical professional liability claims
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a healthcare, claims, or legal setting involving review of medical records, expert testimony, or liability assessment
- Familiarity with medical terminology, standard of care concepts, and healthcare documentation required
- Medico-Legal RN strongly preferred
- Experience communicating with medical experts and/or defense counsel preferred
