Description
About Us:

NYSTEC is a nonprofit technology consulting company, advising agencies, organizations, institutions, and businesses since 1996. We're independent and vendor-neutral, so we have our clients' best interests at heart. At NYSTEC, we know that we succeed when individuals and teams flourish personally and professionally, so our benefits and perks support that mindset.

About the Role:

As an electronic health record (EHR) implementation specialist in the Modernization and Data Solutions practice area, you will collaborate with team members to support large-scale health information technology (IT) modernization efforts. NYSTEC is considered a trusted advisor, providing subject matter expertise and connecting the dots for our clients. NYSTEC has consulted on some of the largest Medicaid initiatives and has served in various roles across a multitude of New York State healthcare technology systems.

Serving as an EHR implementation specialist, your day-to-day role as a per diem NYSTEC consultant will include working across clinical, technical, and operational teams to guide organizations through the complexities of EHR implementation, from readiness planning to go-live and optimization. You should have direct, hands-on experience with EHR implementations in complex healthcare environments, particularly those involving multiple facilities, stakeholders, and governance structures. This position requires a balance of technical expertise, clinical workflow knowledge, and change management skills to ensure seamless adoption and operational success.

As a per diem consultant, you will work on an as-needed basis, based on business needs, not to exceed 30 hours per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert throughout all phases of EHR implementation.
  • Provide guidance on clinical workflows, data migration, interoperability standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align implementation activities with governance structures, work group deliverables, and project milestones.
  • Assess organizational readiness, identifying gaps in processes, technology, and adoption and recommending targeted improvements.
  • Support planning and validating data migration, including mapping, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Advise on standardizing policies, forms, and procedures to enable consistent EHR configuration and workflows.
  • Facilitate and participate in decision-making committees, steering groups, and technical work groups, ensuring that operational and clinical needs are addressed.
  • Provide input into training strategies and change management approaches to support adoption.
  • Identify, document, and mitigate implementation risks in collaboration with project leadership.

About you:
Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale EHR implementation within healthcare or behavioral health settings.
  • Deep understanding of clinical and administrative workflows and how they translate into EHR functionality.
  • Experience in system configuration, vendor coordination, data migration, and interoperability.
  • Knowledge of health IT standards and regulations, including data exchange and reporting requirements.
  • Strong facilitation and communication skills, with a track record of engaging diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
  • Experience conducting readiness assessments, gap analyses, and go-live planning.

Preferred/Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Cerner Millennium/Oracle or other major EHR platforms in multi-facility or statewide implementations.
  • Familiarity with public sector healthcare delivery systems and associated policy frameworks.
  • Background in change management, organizational readiness, or health IT training.

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor's degree and 10+ years of experience as noted above.
  • An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will be considered.
