What this job involves:

As an Assistant Chief Engineer at JLL, you will assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing the comprehensive maintenance and operation of building systems, including mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire life safety systems while supervising engineering teams and ensuring optimal facility performance. This leadership role combines technical expertise with project management responsibilities, requiring you to manage work orders, ensure safety compliance, and participate in budget management while developing preventive maintenance programs. You will play a vital role in JLL's commitment to operational excellence by maintaining building systems to the highest standards, supporting major projects, and ensuring all work meets safety codes and regulations while contributing to our mission of delivering transformative real estate solutions.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Direct and inspect work of subordinate Stationary Engineers and maintenance staff while overseeing operation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire life safety systems
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure optimal system performance while prioritizing, assigning, and monitoring work orders for timely completion
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety codes, regulations, and company policies while assisting Chief Engineer with planning and overseeing major projects
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and material usage while participating in budget preparation and expense management
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to subordinate engineers while diagnosing and resolving complex building system issues
  • Ensure adequate supplies, materials, and parts are available to support maintenance and repair activities while managing multiple tasks and priorities
  • Troubleshoot complex technical problems and communicate effectively with team members, management, and stakeholders regarding system performance and project status.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in stationary engineering or building maintenance field
  • High school diploma or equivalent education
  • Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems
  • Proven supervisory skills with ability to supervise and motivate engineering and technical teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for stakeholder interaction
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
  • Local 39 union membership (required).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional certifications or training in HVAC, electrical, or related technical areas
  • Experience with preventive maintenance program development and implementation
  • Background in project management and budget oversight for facility operations
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, codes, and compliance requirements
  • Experience with work order management systems and maintenance record keeping
  • Familiarity with resource management and inventory control for maintenance operations
  • Training and development experience for technical staff.

Estimated total compensation for this position:

65,300.00 - 94,700.00 USD per year

The total compensation range is an estimate and not guaranteed. An employment offer is based on an applicant's education, experience, skills, abilities, geographic location, internal equity and alignment with market data .
