Job Description

The Manager, Client Relations, Military and Veterans Benefits will be responsible for maintaining established relationships internally, and externally, working closely with faculty, staff, support teams and partnerships, to advance lines of business. The Manger, Client Relations liaisons with cross-functional teams to improve the entire military-affiliated customer experience.

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manages a team of VA work study students and specialists.
  • Work closely with the Military and Veterans Benefits Manager, Virtual Military Education Resource Center Manager, and other processing teams for cohesive collaboration ensuring military affiliated students are assimilated properly within the university system.
  • Responsible for strategizing departments and schools' military-related education benefit programs; works with the (Unified Program Launch(UPL) teams to submit new and revised programs, timely to the Department of the VA. Once partnerships are secured, this position is responsible for implementation of the student experience to ensure business results are achieved.
  • Works closely with Enrollment and Admissions leadership team, Military Outreach, Strategic Partner Managers, and the Military and Veterans Benefits Manager to ensure all services and communications related to Military and Veterans benefits are aligned.
  • Represents the University and its students in state, regional, and national professional associations, such as the State Approving Agency (SAA), (National
  • Association for Veteran Program Administrators, (NAVPA), Council of Colleges and Military Educators (CCME).
  • Supports graduates as needed during the regional commencements working with the other Military and Veterans Benefits teams ensuring graduates are recognized, respond to their questions or concerns regarding their military benefits, and future usage of benefits for returning to school, and receive their "military cords."
  • Liaison between Department of Defense and Department of the Veterans Affairs to ensure all information required is kept current and trusted between departments, responsible for annual catalog submissions, addendum submissions, new and revised programs to the VA, working with Military Process Analyst to ensure data and reports and updated timely, State Approving Agent (SAA), and Education Liaison Representative (ELR).
  • Work closely with the Resource Center Advisors and peer volunteers at WGU to support the VITAL program with the VA and VHA, hospital.
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication, coordination, and working relations with faculty/mentors, staff, and other university personnel working with other departments in a professional and timely manner to ensure interdepartmental communication is maximized and student issues are resolved effectively and efficiently through intra/inter-departmental training.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills as the Client Relations Manager are responsible for resolving student conflicts through effective and timely communication working to collaboratively resolve complaints partnering with Student Conduct and Ombuds seeking to achieve amiable resolutions. This includes VA complaints.
  • Collaborate with Scholarships, Advancement, seeking out grants and additional funding sources to support military-affiliated students in need.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

  • Able to travel to events, conferences and workshops representing the University's Military and Veterans Benefits Department.
  • Maintain a friendly supportive atmosphere for the students.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of the diverse, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and backgrounds of the military affiliated population.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in related field.

Experience

  • 5 or more years of experience with VA benefits programs and requirements.
  • 1 or more years of people leader experience.

Experience in lieu of education

Equivalent relevant experience performing the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements. Generally, equivalent relevant experience is defined as 1 year of experience for 1 year of education and is the discretion of the hiring manager.
