What You'll Do
The Circulation Services Supervisor II leads and manages nine circulation staff and shelving assistants. The role includes oversight of circulation services in a medium sized branch. This position collaborates with the Branch Manager to create a welcoming and safe experience for library staff and customers. The Circulation Services Supervisor possesses comfort with technology including library materials and handling equipment. This role provides key input in developing circulation policies and procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

* Associate's degree AND two years of experience managing or supervising a team in an office, library or retail setting.
OR
* An equivalent combination of education and experience to equal or exceed 4 years. The combination must include experience managing or supervising a team in an office, library or retail setting.

Preferred Qualifications beyond minimum required:
* Library experience strongly preferred.
* Experience working with diverse populations and customers with limited English proficiency.
* Experience working with one or more of the following technologies: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook; E-books, or Internet searching.
* Experience working with a library catalog and/or maker equipment such as 3D printers, creative design software, and sewing machines.
* Bilingual language skills are desirable.


Duties & Responsibilities

1. Supervise and perform all circulation functions in a medium branch library and provide exceptional customer experiences.
* Help to create an inclusive, respectful, and welcoming atmosphere for all customers
* Perform check-in and check-out of materials, registration of borrowers, explanation of policies, collecting money for fees, searching lists, processing delivery and materials, and related duties

2. Collaborate with Branch Manager to address customer concerns, staff issues and emergency situations

3. Manage circulation staff and operations in a medium branch.
* Determine appropriate staffing strategies and work assignments
* Manage staff performance including coaching, conducting performance reviews, and supporting training needs.
* Conduct interviews, hire new staff, and provide orientation and training
* Promote effective communication and facilitate positive working relationships among staff

4. Carry out emergency procedures, monitor building condition, and communicate problems to Facilities Management
* Monitor and troubleshoot equipment, materials, and branch supplies
* Provide input for layout of branch collection, equipment, and furniture

5. Supervise cash collection and accounting in a branch library
* Monitor cash handling for accuracy and address errors
* Prepare daily bank deposits and weekly cash transmittal forms, as well as training backup staff in their preparation
* Work with and respond to questions from county auditor as needed
* Manage supply budget

6. Develop, recommend, and maintain policies and procedures:
* Actively participate on internal committees including the Circulation Services Committee
* Actively participate on external committees including MELSA (Twin Cities metropolitan library systems) committees.
* Provide input in developing documentation for procedures

7. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance managerial skills

Work Environment
May require occasional travel. Work is performed within a County library system. Operation of office equipment such as personal computers, telephone, adding machine, photocopier and fax machines. Occasional lifting requirement of up to 25 pounds, pulling and/or pushing book carts, exerting force up to 50 pounds. Frequent standing, bending, twisting, stretching, crouching, reaching (forward and overhead) and grasping. Frequent wrist and finger manipulation due to high concentration of filing, compiling, calculating or computer work.
