POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department in the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota is seeking a qualified and experienced Veterinary Anesthesiologist to provide hourly instructional support to veterinary students during pre-clinical anesthesia laboratory sessions and active learning discussions. The successful candidate will play a vital role in teaching anesthesia-related principles, protocols, and procedures in a hands-on, clinical learning environment.

Job Duties
80% - Provide on-site, real-time instruction and supervision during anesthesia-related labs and clinical simulations. Facilitate active learning sessions by guiding students through case-based discussions, problem-solving exercises, and clinical decision-making scenarios related to anesthesia. Demonstrate and explain proper techniques, safety protocols, equipment use, and drug calculations. Support students in developing skills in anesthetic planning, patient monitoring, pain management, and emergency response

10% - Offer constructive feedback to students in a professional and supportive manner

10% - Collaborate with faculty and laboratory staff to ensure a consistent and high-quality learning experience

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include:
DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited institution
Active Minnesota veterinary license in good standing
Completion of a residency in veterinary anesthesia or board certification (DACVAA or equivalent); candidates who are residency-trained but not yet board-certified will also be considered
Experience in teaching or mentoring veterinary students in a clinical or academic setting
Strong communication skills and a commitment to student learning and development

Preferred qualifications include:
Prior experience teaching in a veterinary academic environment
Familiarity with current trends and best practices in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia

About the Department

The CVM's Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department advances veterinary medicine through clinical education and mentoring, specialized care of companion animals, and generating new knowledge through clinical research.

  • Teaching
    Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for a significant portion of the clinical training program for third- and fourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internship and residency programs. Faculty members also participate in the veterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciences graduate programs.
  • Research
    Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basic research, as well as specialized programs. Research efforts are supported by the Clinical Investigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials.
  • Service and Outreach
    Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide collaborative clinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center using cutting-edge equipment and offer consultations and continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians in the community.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:$140/hr
