Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in daily operations, including maintaining the general ledger, preparing journal entries, and ensuring accurate accounting across departments. The incumbent oversees regulatory reporting, audits, investor servicing, wire transfers, and fixed asset management, while also liaising with internal and external service providers. Additionally, the position ensures compliance with FDICIA internal controls and contributes to the development of departmental policies and procedures.

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.

This position can be located in Mandeville or New Orleans.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in a related business field or 4 years of comparable experience
  • 2 years' experience in the Finance/Accounting group of a financial institution
  • Excellent accounting skills and working knowledge of regulations governing accounting in financial institutions
  • General understanding of all phases of the institution's operations
  • General understanding of how the various core applications interface to the general ledger
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite to include Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams
  • Developed cognitive skills to include Analytical, Problem Solving, Judgement, Organization & Planning
  • Developed intrapersonal skills to include Follow-Through, Resourcefulness, Initiative

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Skills:


  • Industry Certification(s) and/or designations: Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Master's degree in accounting
  • 5 years' experience as an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager/Supervisor
  • Experience in a public financial institution

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Supervise Accounting staff. Management duties to include: timecard reviews/approvals, participating in the hiring process for direct report openings, fostering professional development and training of direct reports, and ensuring team adherence to company policies and procedures
  • Assist Controller with daily operations including assisting and advising other departments regarding the proper accounting treatment of entries
  • Prepare support as requested for external and internal audits and FDIC/OFI Bank Examiners
  • Prepare the annual FDIC Regulatory Summary of Deposits Report
  • Maintain Fixed Assets system, processing all additions, disposals, and transfers, managing annual inventory review, and completing all LAT-5 reporting
  • Oversee the file transmissions and payments for full portfolio of serviced for investors such as FNMA, FHLMC, MPF/FHLB, etc., reconciling and resolving any discrepancies, and completing monthly and annual reporting requirements
  • Manage the wire transfer process ensuring timely processing of all wires and enforcing related policies and procedures
  • Liaison with FISC (DP Service Provider) and the Information Technology team for any issues which arise with any department application or general ledger entries
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the general ledger, including application interfaces
  • Review all internal deposit accounts and general ledger balance sheet reconciliations and resolve issues as needed
  • Prepare journal entries as needed including monthly expense accruals
  • Monitor and record Investment Portfolio purchases and sales along with the collateralization of securities as needed
  • Assist in the maintenance and development of departmental policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Oversee the department's performance of FDICIA internal controls

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as appointed by management
  • Physical Requirements: primarily sitting with some standing, walking, lifting and bending
