Responsibilities: Diagnose and perform repairs on Caterpillar and other heavy equipment, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Conduct preventive maintenance and routine inspections to identify potential issues before failure occurs. Utilize diagnostic tools, including laptops, gauges, and instruments, to evaluate machine performance and identify faults in electronic, hydraulic, powertrain, and engine systems. Disassemble and assemble machine components to manufacturer specifications using hand tools, pneumatic tools, and specialized CAT specific tooling. Perform occasional basic welding and fabrication as needed. Read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and work orders to complete necessary maintenance and repairs. Research parts requirements and order parts through proper channels. Safely load and unload components or machinery from trucks and carriers. Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with OSHA safety regulations and company standards. Operate machines as needed for testing, diagnostics, or repair verification. Perform other duties as assigned to support shop operations. Requirements Required Qualifications: High school diploma or GED equivalent. 5+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment (Caterpillar preferred). Proficient in using diagnostic tools and software for electronic, engine, and hydraulic systems. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, engines, and components. Ability to read and interpret machine schematics, service manuals, and technical documents. Strong mechanical aptitude, communication skills, and attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer literacy. Must be self-motivated, organized, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Ability to obtain MSHA certification if not already certified. Journeyman Status required. Preferred Qualifications: Technical or vocational training in diesel, heavy equipment, or mechanical systems. 8+ years of experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy equipment (Caterpillar preferred). Experience with Caterpillar diagnostic systems and tools. Basic welding and fabrication skills. Prior experience in a dealership or OEM service environment. Familiarity with safety and environmental standards in a heavy equipment repair setting. Physical Requirements: In addition to being able to sit, stand, walk, read, talk, write and hear, to perform the essential functions of this job an individual must be able to do the following additional activities: Occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
