SALARY:

$16.00 - $17.00 per hour. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

Responsibilities

  • Feed and water horses according to established schedules and individual needs.
  • Turn horses out and bring them in based on rotation plans, weather, and pasture conditions.
  • Clean stalls, remove manure, and refresh bedding materials.
  • Maintain barn aisles, tack rooms, and surrounding areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Water horses throughout the day, especially during hot or dry conditions.
  • Perform regular arena cleanup, including dragging, debris removal, and surface maintenance.
  • Monitor horse health and behavior; report injuries, illness, or abnormalities promptly.
  • Assist with blanketing, fly masks, and seasonal gear as needed.
  • Support veterinary and farrier visits by handling horses safely and professionally.
  • Interact with ranch visitors, including College of Veterinary Medicine students, faculty, and staff.
  • Provide basic orientation or guidance to guests when appropriate.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks such as fence checks, equipment cleaning, and supply restocking and ensure other maintenance issues are reported promptly.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by following all barn protocols, using proper equipment, and reporting hazards or unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Practice safe horse-handling techniques and remain alert to behavioral cues that may indicate stress or risk.
  • Help maintain clear walkways, secure gates, and properly store tools and supplies to prevent accidents or injuries.
  • Teach beginner to intermediate riding lessons, emphasizing safety, horsemanship, and confidence-building.
  • Assist with planning and working ranch-related events (parties, tours, etc.)
  • Help set up, clean up, and provide logistical support for ranch functions and activities.
