Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

KLA is seeking a highly skilled Optical Metrology Engineer to drive the development and production readiness of precision optical modules used in nextgeneration highresolution imaging systems. This handson role blends optics, metrology, and manufacturing engineering, with significant impact on product quality, scalability, and system performance.

You'll work in a cleanroom environment to validate optical components and assemblies, partner closely with crossfunctional engineering teams, and collaborate with global suppliers to bring advanced optical technologies-including deepUV (DUV) optics-into highvolume manufacturing.

Travel: Travel up to 30% domestically and internationally to support customer engagements and supplier rampups.

Job Requirements, but not limited to:

  • Lead and support incoming quality, metrology, and inspection processes for precision optics, including fabrication, coating characterization, interferometry, and alignment.
  • Apply expertise in UV/DUV optical systems to evaluate tolerances, validate material behaviors, and optimize performance for shortwavelength applications.
  • Integrate and align optical modules; architect, build, and sustain test and metrology fixtures to ensure longterm reliability of systemlevel validation.
  • Partner with optics, systems, mechanical, software, manufacturing, and reliability teams to diagnose issues, define corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
  • Establish, document, and train teams on standard processes (DfM, POAs, metrology procedures).
  • Use MES data and SPC analysis to improve yield, tighten specifications, and stabilize process variation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to improve fixture quality, optical component performance, and manufacturing consistency.
  • Conduct structured failure analysis and clearly present findings to internal stakeholders and supplier partners.
  • Interpret optical and mechanical drawings; perform basic CAD updates when needed.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Applied Optics, Optical Science/Engineering, Physics, or related discipline.
  • Proven experience with UV/DUV optics, optical materials, coatings, and shortwavelength system constraints.
  • Proficiency with optical modeling and design tools (Zemax, Code V, LightTools) and metrology systems (Zygo interferometers, MTF benches, profilometers).
  • Strong understanding of optomechanical design, tolerance analysis, and manufacturing processes (machining, casting, bonding, precision assembly).
  • Demonstrated ability to work across global, interdisciplinary teams-engineering, manufacturing, NPI, supplier quality-with excellent verbal and written communication skills (a skill consistently highlighted as critical in competitive roles).
  • Experience collaborating with optical suppliers; ability to translate technical requirements clearly and diplomatically.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills; confident presenting technical findings to varied audiences.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate (Academic) or work experience of 0 years , Master's Level Degree or work experience of 3years , Bachelor's Level Degree or work experience of 5 years
