General summary/purpose:

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in accordance with established policies, evaluates patients in the Pediatric Emergency department as well as admitted pediatric patients in the Bloomberg Childrens Center.



Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Perform comprehensive assessments of pediatric patients in the pediatric emergency department and for hospitalized pediatric patients and at Bloomberg Childrens Center to include a history, mental status examination and contact with collateral sources.
  • Coordinate communication with the medical team and the psychiatry physicians.
  • Assess patient's needs for medication management, prescribe medications and monitor treatment response, order tests and other assessments.
  • Assess necessity for higher level of care, such as inpatient hospitalization.
  • Adhere to Service Excellence Standards: Customer Relations, Self-Management, Teamwork, Communications, Ownership/Accountability, and Continuous Performance Improvement
  • Perform miscellaneous related duties as assigned.


Minimum qualifications (mandatory):

Master's degree in nursing. Registered Nurse license and Certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP.

Preferred qualifications:

3 years direct acute care psych patient care experience. PEDs psych preferred.

Licensure, Certification, Registration:

Must be certified and licensed as a Nurse Practitioner in State of Maryland or other state where practicing. Current CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.

Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:



  • Advanced clinical skills in specialty area or equivalent.
  • General computer knowledge and capability to use computer.
  • Ability to incorporate into practice theoretical concepts and advanced clinical skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary health care team members.
  • Advanced interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with all members of the interdisciplinary health care team to enhance collaboration and problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in order to provide information to patients and health care personnel.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fluid, dynamic, and rapidly changing environment.


Salary Range: Minimum /hour - Maximum /hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
