Environmental Scientist

An Environmental Scientist is responsible for studying and analyzing the environment to address environmental challenges and develop sustainable solutions. They conduct research, collect and analyze data, and provide recommendations to mitigate the impact of human activities on the environment. Their work involves assessing environmental risks, conducting environmental impact assessments, and developing strategies for conservation and ecosystem management. Environmental Scientists also contribute to the development of policies and regulations related to environmental protection and work closely with stakeholders, including government agencies, industries, and communities, to promote sustainable practices. Their goal is to ensure the preservation and restoration of ecosystems while addressing pressing issues such as climate change and biodiversity loss.

Estimated Starting Salary Range for Environmental Scientist:

Pay commensurate with experience.

Environmental Scientist Responsibilities Include:

  • Performs visual stormwater outlet inspections, conducts stormwater sampling, reviews existing permits and plans, and writes and/or edits related plans and reports.
  • Works activities support various aspects of environmental projects that may include preliminary environmental document preparation, environmental permitting, storm water system evaluation and inspection, environmental due diligence, environmental site characterization, compliance inspections, and environmental site closure phases.
  • Completes well-defined tasks using established company procedures and policies while demonstrating problem-solving skills when unexpected obstacles are encountered. Supervises contractors, collaborates with other site field personnel, interacts with regulatory personnel, and eventually mentors and trains or less-experienced personnel will be required.
  • Interprets and presents collected data in reports that include text, tables, and figures suitable for client and regulatory review. Prepares of stormwater reports, permits, and other associated environmental reporting.
  • Works will often involve use of complex instrumentation or equipment and may include installation, calibration and/or maintenance of equipment or instrumentation associated with a particular job site.
  • Applies technical skills and knowledge to complete the assigned work and will be expected to manage his/her own time to meet deadlines set by others.
  • Generates and maintains detailed and accurate records both manually and by computer methods.
  • Works closely with Site Project Managers in implementing project tasks to meet client objectives and priorities.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures during the execution of work.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Environmental Scientist Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in an engineering, science or environmentally related technical field consistent with the required duties of the position.
  • A minimum of 4 years of applicable experience.
  • Strong Leadership Skills including safe work practices and project management.
  • Skilled in managing Storm Water Pollution Prevention Programs (SWPPP), Multi-Sector General Permits (MSGP), Storm water best management practices (BMP's), ground and surface water sampling and analysis, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC),
  • Knowledge of waste management programs including Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) compliance programs associated with hazardous and solid wastes, used oil and universal waste.
  • Familiarity with Toxic Release Inventory (TRI), Global Release Inventory (TRI), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and Emergency Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA).
  • Knowledge of project management tools and techniques.
  • Skilled with NAVFAC and/or USACE projects.
  • Ability to create and elaborate on project communication material, including project updates, status reports and SharePoint communications
  • Must have excellent customer service and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally (in common English narration) and in writing (to include technical documentation).
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, work under pressure and tight deadlines, work independently and work in a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with emphasis on Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, other applicable database and office automation products, to include Adobe Pro.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment where changing client priorities require flexibility and creativity.
  • Ability to work in a remote environment as needed.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.
