DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego Health is a Magnet-designated organization, which is a prestigious recognition that applies to only 10% of all U.S. hospitals. Magnet is the "gold standard" for nursing excellence and is based on strengths in five key areas which include transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge, innovation and improvements and empirical outcomes. UC San Diego Health has held its Magnet status since 2011.

The Electrophysiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide support to our physicians in the clinic and hospital setting. The NP will work together with our fellows, Physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals, and be responsible for supporting our EP clinics, caring for hospitalized Electrophysiology (EP) patients, and providing pre- and post-procedural care, including coordination of care between the hospital and clinic.

The department offers the full range of EP services, including ablation, LAA closure, device implants, laser lead extractions, and tilt table testing. Tasks may include comprehensive assessment, ordering, conducting, and interpreting diagnostic tests; formulating a diagnostic impression; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; prescribing pharmacological agents and treatments, as well as non-pharmacological therapies; and offering counseling and education to meet patient needs.

The NP assesses and provides nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is expected to practice consistent with the ANA Standards of Practice and Professional Performance. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Under general supervision, incumbents perform operational-level duties as described in the Series Concept. The primary emphasis at this level is the ongoing delivery of direct patient care. Assignments at this level primarily involve managing patients who present with chronic and/or episodic health problems. Assignments at this level may include responsibility for occasional community teaching programs, participation in program planning, and development of patient education information. Job standards are to be performed at the PRACTITIONER level.

While not required, a cover letter is highly recommended when applying to this position.
