Position Summary/ Department Summary:
We are looking for a full-time research assistant to help investigate the mechanisms for the health benefits of bariatric surgery, including type 2 diabetes remission, in the Endocrinology Division at Boston Children's Hospital. The research assistant will provide support for our basic and translational research program, including bench science and work with laboratory rodents (mice) as well as human patients. Bench techniques may include RNA/DNA extractions, preparations for single-cell RNA-seq, human and rodent tissue processing, cell and organoid culture, metabolic flux assays, flow cytometry, immunoblotting, microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. Clinical/translational work will include receiving specimens collected in clinical facilities at Boston Children's Hospital, in addition to managing associated records. The position will involve working with mice and rats, including performing dissections, helping with mouse breedings, and assisting with postoperative care of animals. Prior research experience is preferred.

  • Handle responsibilities that may include lifting, moving, and transporting laboratory equipment.
  • Safely manage tasks involving hazardous materials and handling of animals.

Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree is required for the role.
  • Coursework in Chemistry/Biology is preferred.

Experience:
  • Some basic laboratory experience encouraged but not required.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
