Medica seeks a visionary, execution-driven Principal AI Platform Engineer to architect, engineer and scale next-generation AI agents and infrastructure. You will own the strategic direction and delivery of complex, enterprise-wide AI initiatives that transform healthcare experiences for members, providers, and employees. This role demands deep technical expertise, thought leadership, the ability to influence organizational priorities while driving innovation at scale, and ability to scale cross cutting concerns across various engineering teams. Perform other duties assigned.

Key Accountabilities:



  • Enterprise AI Platform Strategy & Development

    • Define and lead the architecture, design, and deployment of AI platforms and pipelines across the enterprise. Ensure scalability, reliability, and compliance while setting standards for safety, transparency, and performance


  • Innovation & AI Native Solutions

    • Drive the creation and operationalization of advanced AI-native workflows and systems. Champion state-of-the-art approaches to solve strategic healthcare and technical challenges. Own and track to business KPIs


  • Technical & Organizational Leadership

    • Serve as the principal authority on AI engineering decisions. Influence cross-functional architecture, mentor lead and senior engineers, and establish best practices for design, code quality, and operational excellence. Influence engineering practices across all of Medica Tech


  • Research & Evangelism

    • Anticipate emerging AI trends and evaluate new technologies. Shape organizational adoption strategies and evangelize innovations across teams and leadership forums




Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, plus 10 years of related work experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 10+ years building production-grade software in Python, Go, or equivalent, with demonstrated leadership in enterprise-scale AI systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience with Generative AI technologies, including their applications, limitations, and ethical considerations
  • 5+ years technical leadership in healthcare or another regulated space
  • Consistent track record of defining and executing a technical strategy across cross functional teams
  • Proven success in architecting and scaling public cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • Ability to architect, build and operationalize enterprise-wide standard platforms
  • Strong ability to influence enterprise AI strategy and roadmap across technology and business stakeholders
  • Expertise in infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or similar), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and agent orchestration frameworks
  • Strong command of modern DevOps tooling (GitHub Actions, Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry)
  • Deep knowledge of agent frameworks (LangGraph, AutoGen, CrewAI, OpenAI ADK) and modular architectures
  • Experience designing AI evaluation frameworks for accuracy, bias, and security
  • Ability to guide strategic decisions on RAG vs. fine-tuning vs. prompt engineering
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare data compliance
  • Thought leadership in generative AI adoption and risk management



    This position is an Office role, which requires an employee to work onsite at our Minnetonka, MN office, on average, 3 days per week.

    The full salary grade for this position is $167,000 - $251,000. While the full salary grade is provided, the typical hiring salary range for this role is expected to be between $167,000 - $209,900. Annual salary range placement will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, education, work experience, applicable certifications and/or licensure, the position's scope and responsibility, internal pay equity and external market salary data. In addition to compensation, Medica offers a generous total rewards package that includes competitive medical, dental, vision, PTO, Holidays, paid volunteer time off, 401K contributions, caregiver services and many other benefits to support our employees.
