The Secure Detention Facility Assistant Director is responsible for providing administrative and programmatic support for all aspects of the Secure Detention Facility, including, but not limited to, program management, planning, maintenance, staffing, budget, supervision, and training.
Description
Job Responsibilities
- Coordinates safety and security oversight and management of all visitations into the Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.
- Responsible for establishing, coordinating, and maintaining a comprehensive staff training program that involves, but is not limited to, identifying needs and areas of training, establishing a training plan, and preparing associated manuals.
- Assist in establishing and maintaining the facility evaluation program for all staff under their supervisory domain to enhance the general knowledge base, performance standards, and daily job performance.
- Ensures all staff received proper supervision from leadership
- Responsible for overseeing, facility, security and daily program operations.
- Advises and provides recommends to the Facility Director that would generate improvements to the overall effectiveness and security of the facility program.
- Assists and provides support to Facility Director regarding program's budget.
- Interviews potential candidates to determine the viability of their application to join the program
- Monitors resident intake, release, and transportation requirements. Arranges and approve all movement of residents as dictated or as necessary according to court mandates, medical service needs and other related movement.
- Investigates all complaints from both residents and staff regarding potential violations of facility rules, regulations, policies, etc. and makes recommendations to the Facility Director for resolution and/or follow through the established labor management protocols and all other applicable protocols.
- Evaluates all residents regarding their respective remand i.e.: why resident is in detention, type of behavior exhibited and conditions of program venue for resident while in detention.
- Responsible for ensuring youth are safe and are enrolled in the appropriate program based on youth's individual needs.
- Coordinates with other staff to ensure that each resident receives optimal care during their tenure in detention.
- Inspect the building daily to ensure adherence to all health, safety, and fire codes.
Job requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services or related field and 5 years of experience working with youth in an institutional setting OR an Associate's degree with 10 years of experience working with youth in an institutional setting.
- Must have at least 1 year of supervisory experience required.
- Must become and maintain First Aid/CPR and required crisis management certification.
- Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Travel may be required.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, weekend availability may be mandatory and necessary as needed.
