Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented finance professional to lead our Direct Tax functions. This role is responsible for overseeing the entire tax lifecycle of the direct tax function and includes managing U.S. federal, state, and international tax compliance, audits, and is responsible for identifying tax planning opportunities that align with CDW's operating model and values. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in U.S. federal, state, and international tax law, tax compliance, tax provision (ASC 740), along with strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills.

What you'll do

  • Represent the direct tax function as it relates to organizational change initiatives within Finance, including system implementations, process redesign, and policy updates.
  • Cultivate a high-performance culture by setting measurable goals, recognizing achievements, and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Develop succession plans and career paths to ensure long-term team capability and leadership pipeline.
  • Set strategic direction for the function in alignment with corporate goals and evolving business needs.
  • Lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of all income tax compliance filings including federal, state, and international tax returns, annual reports, quarterly estimates and extensions.
  • Review quarterly tax provisions (ASC 740) and related footnotes and disclosures for SEC filings.
  • Monitor and assess the impact of new tax law and regulatory changes, model and present impact analysis to leadership.
  • Provide guidance on the tax consequences of complex transactions such as M&A, debt refinancings, and differences in GAAP vs tax methods of accounting.
  • Collaborate with auditors to support external audit of financial statements.
  • Lead, negotiate, and finalize audits with federal, state and local taxing authorities.
  • Maintain existing tax planning initiatives as well as identify opportunities to reduce tax burden with strategies that are aligned with CDW's go-to-market strategy, internal operating model, and company values.
  • Establish and advise the business on group transfer pricing policies and oversee the required annual transfer pricing documentation.
  • Manage the direct tax Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program, including risk assessments, control testing, and remediation.
  • Drive continuous improvement in income tax compliance and tax accounting processes, systems, and documentation standards.
  • Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, fostering a culture of integrity and excellence.

  • Strong data and analytics capabilities, leveraging large data sets and driving insights and trends to identify opportunities for tax savings or potential areas of risk.
  • Process improvement and innovation mindset with ability to scope a problem, develop solutions, and drive the execution of the solution, with new and innovative tools.
  • Approaches each day with critical thinking and continuously challenging how we are executing with ability to evaluate new ways of working.

Minimum basic requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
  • Experience working with large, public entities is required
  • CPA and public accounting experience is preferred
  • Master's degree in tax is preferred
  • 8-10 years of experience, with 4 years minimum in a reporting role, and 4 years minimum in a management role
