The Cross Sector Manager is responsible for Cross Sector operations within the business groups including staff management, financial oversight, establishment of a culture of quality, assisting in business development, and establishing a vision for the area Cross Sector program. This role will partner with business groups to drive the growth of our Cross Sector services and cross business group key pursuits (BGX).

The Cross Sector Manager possesses and maintains a deep understanding of the breadth of HDRs services and how clients perceive their technical needs with respect to Cross Sector Services and has the ability to, in conjunction with the Business Group Managers, package HDR expertise as solutions to these problems. The Cross Sector Manager works with Cross Sector Section and Business Class Managers to fulfill complementary responsibilities as appropriate (i.e. delegate responsibilities to the lowest possible level of responsibility).

The Cross Sector Manager will partner with business group leaders to identify, track, and develop strategy to secure large, multi-disciplinary projects (BGX). These are projects that might be large in scope and not clearly fall within the services of a single business group but require the engagement of many business groups to win and execute.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for Cross Sector staff development including career planning, hiring justification (lead process), staffing performance and adjustments providing forward looking input to AM and Regional Management and lead effort on identifying and assigning work - local and workshare
  • Serve as a main reviewer for any pre-contract, go/no go, fee proposal submittals, negotiations, contract signing, and project execution for Cross Sector Services. Business Group Managers retain all responsibilities as set out in the MOA.
  • Cross Sector staff management - managing budgets with focus on billability and coordinating with Area Business Group Managers on balancing overhead budgets including training budgets and career development plans; however, profit and loss (P&L) responsibilities remain with the Area Business Group Managers
  • Lead project reviews for Cross Sector services for scope, schedule, fee, profitability and contract and risk management
  • Work with Business Group Managers and business development on allocating marketing budgets for Cross Sector Services and Cross Sector staff conference participation including presentations and attendance
  • Lead strategy and development of large cross business group capture planning and efforts, ie; HDR's BGX Initiative
  • Work with Business Development leads to determining client needs and coordination around large cross business group pursuits.
  • Driving our culture of quality for the team activities and quality control are completed with documentation through a pro-active project management system and work with the office QMS
  • Provide input to Area Manager and Business Group Managers on recognition of Cross Sector staff and development and involvement in companywide programs such as Career Skills, CareerBoost, NextGEN, YP, Professional Associates, officer nominations, etc. (i.e. coordinate within office)
  • Provides hands-on mentoring and team participation to create a bridge between Cross Sector business class technical resources and client requirements and ensure that appropriate leadership and supervision on technical assignments.
  • Work with business development leads and section leads on staff assignments for project manager and lead technical roles on pursuits
  • Lead risk review and management activities for contract reviews and deliverables for Cross Sector Services
  • Supports technical leadership to identify and develop strategies for world-class services.
  • Coordinate with Regional Business Group Directors and Area Business Group Managers
  • Establish and execute a five-year vision in coordination with business development and business group and business class leaders
  • Participate in development and expansion of HDR services. Actively selling all HDR's services, considering all of HDR's cross sectors, business groups, business classes, and market sectors
  • Support and implementation of HDR national, regional and local initiatives and strategies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience related to developing, executing, and monitoring implementation of strategic growth initiatives
  • Understanding of the depth and breadth of HDR services and expertise
  • Experience managing staff and career development activities
  • Adapt at working with teams and creating an environment of cooperation and shared vision
  • Excellent communication skills
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
