DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Energy and Sustainability Manager, provides a wide range of professional-level technical support to the department. Applies skills as a professional with a full understanding of industry practices and relevant policies and procedures in providing consultation, evaluation, configuration, installation, troubleshooting, testing, and repair of campus Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) metering systems. Resolves a wide range of issues and demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions.

Initializes setup and configuration of meters and water and gas meter endpoints, and monitors meter communication matters to resolve issues as quickly and efficiently as possible. Works with project teams to develop a utility monitoring plan for new construction projects and upgrades, and to ensure that utility monitoring systems installed are documented in accordance with the business plan. Routinely audits, assesses, and summarizes utility monitoring business processes to ensure requirements are being met; and documents findings via an online database. Corresponds, collaborates, and coordinates with multiple UCSD and vendor entities as needed.

Maintains the datasets and data quality of the meters (ensures that the reports match the meters) to analyze utility management process and ensure business user needs are met; works in conjunction with Energy Management Analyst to ensure energy dashboard is reporting accurately; and diagnoses and repairs discrepancies/communication issues from databases to front-end utility dashboards. This position also supports field utilities operations by coordinating meter identifiers, reviewing communication variances, and supporting utility data investigations as directed.

Working in a customer service environment, effectively works with campus customers and co-workers to accomplish work with a high level of quality and efficiency. Effectively communicates ideas and information orally, in writing, and electronically. Assists in resolving questions regarding service performed. Refers customer inquiries or complaints tactfully to the appropriate area, and provides expeditious, professional, and courteous customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

  • Knowledge relating to software design Knowledge of power management software such as Schneider's Power Monitoring Expert. Ability to map and configure Electric/BTU meters applying appropriate parameters, mathematical blocks, Data loggers, Modbus Master, DNP, or 4-20 device module using metering software suite such as Designer, Vista, Management Console, and Reporter. Ability to configure BTU meters using tools such as management console.

  • Intermediate knowledge of related areas of IT. Demonstrated understanding of development process, security and identity management concepts, user management, and reporting. Intermediate knowledge of metering software tools such as FluxDiag and Sensus Field Logic Tools Software, and related special functions to be able to report, manage, and troubleshoot metering communications.

  • Extensive knowledge of communication metering hardware such as Command Link and Touch Coupler hardware. Demonstrated ability to configure, test, and troubleshoot water/gas meter endpoints.

  • General knowledge of business and process analysis functions. General understanding of process efficiency, project management, estimating, planning and scheduling

  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Interpersonal and communications skills to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Demonstrated testing and test planning skills. Demonstrated ability to write test plans, cases and scenarios; execute them and track and report results. Familiarity with FTP's (File Transfer Protocols) for uploading data to remote servers. Knowledge of, and experience with, database management platforms such as Airtable.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds.

  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Demonstrates problem-solving skills. Strong analytical, diagnostic, and critical thinking skills. Must be forward thinking, focused on efficiency and improvement.

  • Skills associated with analysis of processes and issues of moderate scope, information flow and architecture.

  • Skill in analyzing meter datasets to identify discrepancies, communication variances, and data quality issues, and to take corrective action.

  • Basic understanding of network pathways affecting metering communication, including VLAN assignments, firewalls, endpoints, and device managers.

  • Knowledge of data management practices related to utility metering, including the ability to create and enter identification numbers for electric, water, gas, and BTU meters into ION, Sensus, and EnergyCAP systems.

  • Ability to coordinate meter-related work with electricians, contractors, IT personnel, and vendors, ensuring accurate installation, configuration, and documentation.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Occasional evenings and weekends may be required.

  • DOJ/FBI and CA DMV background checks and clearances required prior to employment.

  • Required to hold valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.

  • This position may be required to be on campus during emergency or major utility service interruptions.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $71,600 - $127,400 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $34.29 - $61.02

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
