Position Description:

A postdoctoral research scholar position is available in the Department of Internal Medicine at the Divisions of Hematology/Oncology. This is an outstanding opportunity for a research-focused scientist to join a collaborative and innovative academic environment committed to excellence in vascular biology and thrombosis research. We seek qualified applicants to lead basic and translational research projects towards improved understanding of the mechanisms of arterial, venous thrombosis and stroke. My lab is also part of the SPAN network "The University of Iowa Stroke Preclinical Assessment Center for Neuroprotection in Stroke". The main objective of the SPAN network is to address this need by prioritizing the testing of different neuroprotective agents in humans based on their measured comparative efficacy in experimental stroke models.

Education Requirement:

PhD in a biomedical science-related field.

Required Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated expertise in:



    • Platelet functional assays and leukocyte biology
    • Thrombosis and Hemostasis in vivo assays
    • Microscopy
    • Handling mice and managing colonies. Experimental models of stroke (filament and embolic) with long-term functional outcome.
    • Technical skills such as RNA isolation, RT- PCR, PCR, Western, isolation and culture of endothelial cells.




  • Experience in supervising laboratory and/or research personnel.
  • A strong publication record with evidence of first-author publications.
  • Knowledge of Word, Power point, Excel, Sigma plots etc. are required. First author or co-author publications will be a plus and taken into consideration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and scientific presentations.
