Overview
Performs skilled work as a boilermaker and pipefitter in capital construction, maintenance and repair projects and performs associated work.
Responsibilities
Performs any combination of the work required for or relating to the following:
- The complete installation, fabrication, maintenance, overhaul and repair of pressure vessels including LPG liquid storage tanks, vapor tanks, sphere liquid dispensers, skid tanks, barge tanks, high pressure holders, water seal holders, DOT transport tanks; involves rigging, jacking, cribbing, chipping, scaling, grinding, steam cleaning, sandblasting, pit-welding, chemical treating, painting, testing, and purging.
- The complete installation, maintenance, and repair of all pipelines (WOG low and high pressure), manifold piping, pumps, meters and regulators.
- Carpentry work, rough and finished, involved in the construction, alteration and repair of tank support piers, pipe piers, loading stations, bulk heads, pump foundations, concrete blockwall footings, etc.
- Masonry work, involved in the construction, alteration and repair of masonry arches, machine and equipment foundations.
- General laborer work in clearing, excavating, trenching, general cleaning, etc.
- Fills in and maintains pertinent logs and prepares reports as required.
- Maintains assigned and project work areas and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition. Carries out safety orders pertaining to his area and reports any unsafe conditions that he cannot remedy. Completes assigned projects in an effective, efficient and safe manner.
- Performs all related and other work as required.

Qualifications
Required Education and/or Work Experience:
- Preferably a high school graduate with trade school education.
- At least three years successful and progressive maintenance, construction, and repair experience in the LP gas or manufactured gas industry. Qualified in all phases of the work described. Possesses good working knowledge of all pertinent codes, regulations, standards, and safety rules in addition to the standard practices, processes, methods, tools and materials of the trade.
Preferred Education and/or Work Experience:
- Must know and observe the standards detailed in NFPA pamphlet #58, "Storage and Handling Liquefied Petroleum Gases," and NFPA pamphlet #59, "Liquefied Petroleum Gases"; Company safety rules and regulations; and DOT precautions and OSHA rules applicable to his particular trade.
- Must have a general knowledge of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code for unfired pressure vessels, Ch. VIII.
- Must have knowledge of the equipment used to perform the required work of the unit, and of the proper preventive maintenance to reduce down-time of equipment.
- Must have a valid type 5 driver's license.
Working Conditions/Environment/Physical Demands:
- Works primarily out in the field, in confined spaces below ground level and under harbor piers, and at elevations exceeding 100 feet.
- Involves hot work and pipe pressures through 700 PSIG.
- Degree to which exposed to gas fumes varies from light to an occasional extreme concentration requiring the use of a gas mask.
- May involve work at nights, weekends and holidays, subject to emergency calls.
- Must be in good physical condition and have good eyesight.
- Work involves a moderate to heavy degree of physical effort.
- Lumbo sacral spine must be considered a good risk for heavy labor work.
- Must not have acrophobia or claustrophobia.
