THE POSITION

The Pennsylvania State Police have a current vacancy for a Clerical Assistant 2 in the Fingerprint Identification Section. This position receives, sorts, and delivers daily mail throughout the office and processes applicant and criminal fingerprint cards in accordance with the appropriate requirements.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position you will receive, review, and process incoming fingerprint cards in accordance with HB 2235 (Private Detectives Act). Prepares fingerprint cards and verifies each fingerprint card for accuracy and submission of required fees. Ensures the Private Detective Agency submitting fingerprints maintains a current/active license with the Clerk of Courts Office within the appropriate county; ensures an electronic Criminal History Information is forwarded to the Clerk of Courts Office in a timely manner; and ensures that current criminal arrest information is forwarded to the Clerk of Courts upon the applicant's arrest.

Additional responsibilities include receiving, reviewing, and processing incoming DNA fingerprint cards in compliance with ACT 184, HB 835 (DNA Act). Collects, searches, and examines criminal history record information. Maintains basic knowledge and understanding of the Pennsylvania Crimes Code, Penal Code, Vehicle Code, Pharmacy Laws, Liquor Code, and Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Free parking at this facility.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:
  • One year or more of data entry experience.
  • One year or more of customer service experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
