CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT, SURVEY (STARSHIP LAUNCH PAD)

As a critical member of the Launch Pad Civil Team, you will supervise and lead field operations with a primary emphasis on land surveying, site layout, and survey-driven construction coordination to enable the build and activation of infrastructure for a variety of projects in Starbase, TX.Successful candidates will have astrong professional surveying background combined with hands-on leadership of field crews and contractors in a fast-paced construction environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Oversee and own the day-to-day site management of a fast-paced, high-impact construction project, with a primary focus on survey control, layout, and verification
  • Lead and coordinate field crews supporting construction, including work schedules, priorities, quality control, and resource allocation
  • Establish, maintain, and verify horizontal and vertical control networks across active construction sites
  • Oversee construction staking, as-built data collection, boundary verification, and topographic surveys
  • Coordinate survey activities with engineering, construction, and management teams to ensure accuracy, schedule adherence, and constructability
  • Plan, implement, and enforce site logistics and survey workflows to support broader project goals and schedules
  • Management of SpaceX construction and survey assets (survey equipment, trailers, rental equipment, etc.)
  • Implement and enforce SpaceX safety policies; drive a strong safety culture across survey crews, contractors, and internal partners
  • Daily field coordination and conflict resolution between survey teams, contractors, and internal stakeholders
  • Manage site logistics, including daily deliveries, offloading, inventory, storage, and staging of SpaceX-purchased materials
  • Responsible for job-site cleanliness within survey and logistics areas
  • Maintain, implement, and iterate SpaceX-provided construction barricades and site controls as needed
  • Maintain jobsite storm water pollution prevention plan (SWPP) compliance in coordination with environmental and construction teams
  • Create, enforce, and iterate schedules for survey crews, contractors, and subcontractors in conjunction with engineering and project management
  • Maintain accurate daily field logs, survey reports, and as-built documentation, reporting to management as required
  • Oversee the procurement and execution of survey-driven construction scope as delegated by the engineering and management team:
  • Provide budgetary cost estimates for survey and site-prep related scopes based on preliminary project requirements
  • Gather proposals from survey and construction contractors; assist with contract award and scope definition
  • Develop final cost and schedule baselines for survey-related subprojects and implement controls to manage cost, schedule, and scope
  • Coordinate implementation of survey deliverables and track progress against project milestones
  • Coordinate with end users, engineering, and facilities teams to support ongoing construction and long-term site operations
  • Manage night shift survey and construction activities as required by project schedules
  • Make operational adjustments as necessary to meet construction deadlines; escalate technical or schedule risks to engineering and management teams as needed
  • Responsible for contractor badging and site access coordination through SpaceX security
  • When necessary (~10% of the time), perform hands-on survey field work, including layout, verification, and troubleshooting


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 4+ years of professional land surveying experience supporting construction, infrastructure, or industrial projects
  • 2+ years of experience leading or supervising survey crews or field teams
  • Hands-on experience with construction layout, as-built surveys, and survey control


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Experience working as a construction surveyor, field surveyor, or survey party chief
  • Strong understanding of survey methods, including GNSS, total stations, and digital levels
  • Proficiency with survey and CAD software (Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Leica, Revit, NX CAD or similar)
  • Field experience coordinating survey operations across multi-disciplinary construction teams
  • Knowledge of jurisdictional permitting, right-of-way, and environmental compliance requirements
  • Working knowledge of civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical, and construction disciplines
  • Experience with estimating, scheduling, and managing survey or construction scopes
  • Ability to read, interpret, and verify construction drawings, survey plats, and alignment geometry
  • Strong problem-solving skills in dynamic field environments
  • Ability to rapidly change roles and responsibilities while maintaining a high sense of urgency
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while communicating clearly with field and office teams


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Stand: Up to 10 hours per day
  • Sit: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Push/Pull: Up to 75lbs. (unassisted) 15 minutes or less per day
  • Overhead reach: Up to 6 hours per day
  • Walk: Up to 10 hours per day
  • Lift/Carry: Up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) 15 minutes or less per day
  • Climb (ladder/stairs): Up to 10 hours per day
  • Kneel/Crouch: Up to 3 hours per day
  • Upper body twist: Up to 3 hours per day
  • Ability to work in temperatures over 80 degrees 6 hours or greater per day
  • Candidate must be capable of safely working at heights (up to 500ft), in confined spaces, using an air purifying respirator, operating heavy equipment and machinery, and performing the physical requirements of the job listed in the job description
  • Candidate may be required to complete a pre-employment questionnaire and/or physical to confirm these capabilities, which may include a medical history review
