GENERAL FUNCTION

The VPL field testing role involves evaluating products or systems in real-world environments to ensure they meet performance, reliability, and quality standards. This often includes collecting data, troubleshooting issues, and providing feedback to development teams. Field testing is a crucial part of the product development process, ensuring products meet design intent and Oakley performance standards before release.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Testing in Real-World Conditions: Evaluating products in their intended environment to assess functionality, performance, and identify potential issues.This will require the candidate to participate alongside our athletes for evaluation. Sports could include but not limited to, Snow sports, water sports (e.g., surfing and fishing), two-wheel sports ( e.g., cycling, MTB, motocross), paddle sports, stick and ball sports and golf.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Gathering data during testing, analyzing results, and documenting findings.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Identifying and resolving issues encountered during testing, often involving root cause analysis.
  • Reporting and Feedback: Providing detailed reports and feedback to development and engineering teams, including suggested improvements.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other teams (e.g., R&D, Product Management, Design and Manufacturing) to ensure product performance and address user feedback.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Maintaining and calibrating testing equipment and tools.
  • Following Procedures: Adhering to established testing procedures and safety protocols.
  • Logistics: Planning field test logistics including travel and lodging. Recruiting field test participants and building a database of testers for efficiency.
  • Identify and document the culture related to the sports we participate in
  • Work closely with the VPL UX team on research projects. Tasks could range from supporting logistics and recruiting to interviewing consumers/athletes.
  • Support lab testing when needed
  • Learn all key product development milestones to bring value when and where needed. (e.g., fit and comfort, optics, frame design attributes)


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Design, human sciences or related
  • 5+ years related industry experience
  • Proficiency in outdoor activities such as skiing, snowboarding, road biking, mountain biking, motocross, golf, etc.
  • Able to lead field test execution, experiments, test parameters, and collection of data and research
  • Able to organize collection of data and research in the field and consolidate data into meaningful insights and actionable feedback
  • Clean, accurate and precise work documentation
  • Self-starter, self-motivated
  • Proactive with natural inclination to think outside the box
  • Strong self-management
  • Able to travel up to 30%, domestic and international


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Master's degree/PhD in Engineering, Design, human sciences or related
  • Demonstrated understanding of critical thinking, design thinking, and discovery method
  • Existing industry and athlete relations
  • Passion for Oakley products and for innovation and performance

Pay Range:129,147.68-184,831.07
