The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to provide valuable experience to students pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher. Our goal is to give students meaningful work that builds on what they are learning in the classroom. Our programs are project based. Students will receive a project at the beginning of the summer and present it in our project expo at the end of the summer. Job Description

Job Summary/Objective:
The purpose of Southwire's College Programs is to help early career professionals bring together formal learning and

productive work to improve their ability to transition from school to work. Southwire provides interns and co-ops with

"real world" applications of their academic studies, helpful feedback and coaching, and consideration for employment

after graduation. Each student will have a variety of responsibilities and assigned projects that relate to their field of

study and be responsible for developing a timeline, progress updates, and final delivery in a senior leadership expo.

Note: All new interns and co-ops must begin in the summer rotation.

Key Responsibilities
* Your intern assignment is generally 10-12 weeks, and co-op assignment is generally 16-18 weeks and

will include an assigned project and opportunities to present your work.

* You will also collaborate on other exciting projects and work with talented peers and inspirational

leaders, many of whom began as interns and co-ops themselves.

* You will be provided a robust developmental experience through an immersive onboarding and

offboarding experience, assigned a mentor, networking opportunities, organized events, activities, and

community service /volunteer initiatives.

* You will have the opportunity to impact the future of the organization, all the while being exposed to

a world-class program community.

Long Description

Position Summary

This position will support the EP engineering team's key projects and initiatives that align with Southwire's strategic goals by applying fundamental engineering principles to realworld projects involving product design, reverse engineering, and New Product Introduction (NPI). This role will provide handson experience in evaluating mechanical systems, developing technical documentation, and assisting with the launch of new or improved products into manufacturing. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively. They will work closely with engineers, technicians, and crossfunctional teams to deliver highquality engineering solutions that enhance product performance, cost efficiency, and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, analyze data, and present findings to support engineering projects.
  • Support design engineers with testing and certification of new product
  • Assist in updating and creating engineering documentation, standard operating procedures, process flow diagrams, verification of Bill of Materials and uploading them to various file repositories
  • Utilize CAD software to create or revise parts, assemblies, and detailed drawings, layouts as needed for project work.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other deliverables to communicate project progress and results.
  • Engage with cross-functional teams including technicians, CMs, quality, and safety to drive project success.
  • Support internal and external communication efforts related to engineering projects and initiatives.
  • Perform other engineering-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA.
  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another closely related field.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organization, planning, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Technical Skills
    • Understanding of Solidworks (CAD) and if not a Certified Solidworks Associate (CSWA) the ability to acquire it in a reasonable amount of time
    • Use of Microsoft Office suite and collaboration tools (Teams, Zoom, Etc.)
  • Personal Characteristics
    • Troubleshooting and logical thinking
    • Ability to meet agreed upon schedules and commitments
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to adapt to changing timelines or project requirements
    • Curiosity and a desire to learn about various aspects of engineering
