POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Payroll Accountant is responsible for overseeing complex payroll accounting, compliance, and reporting activities to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing. This role serves as a subject-matter expert for payroll taxes, reconciliations, audits, and regulatory requirements, and partners closely with HR, Finance, and external vendors to support payroll operations across multiple jurisdictions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Principal accountabilities:
- Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts monthly
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in payroll and accounting records
- Document payroll processes, procedures, and controls
- Support internal and external audits, including SOX (if applicable)
- Maintain strong internal controls and segregation of duties
- Prepare and review payroll journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, ensuring payroll data is recorded accurately and in a timely manner in the general ledger.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to reduce risk and increase efficiency
- Partner with HR on compensation, benefits deductions, leave programs, and employee changes
- Mentor Payroll processors
- Maintain a safety goal of 100% (Essential)
- Complies with EBARA safety policies, including participation in and completion of all required safety training.

Education
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPP Certification
- Minimum of eight (8) years' work-related experience in payroll and human resources
SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Strong knowledge of:
- Payroll accounting principles
- Strong understanding of payroll tax regulations and multi-state payroll compliance that includes, but is not limited to: CA, OR, AZ, MA, NJ, NY, and TX.
- Experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms (Knowledge of PayCom is preferred)
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with system implementations or payroll process automation
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- Demonstrated leadership and program management. Demonstrated teamwork skills.
