dormakaba is seeking a Purchasing/Buyer Intern based in Indianapolis, IN. This role will report directly to the Purchasing Manager. The Purchasing/Buyer Intern is responsible for supporting procurement activities, supplier coordination, purchasing operations, and cost analysis initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in supply chain management and strategic sourcing.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: Base Salary $ 19.00-$ 23.00 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) Please visit our career site for more information on benefits.

What you will do

• Assist in processing purchase orders, managing requisitions, and tracking order status to ensure timely delivery of materials and components for production needs
• Support supplier communication and coordination including follow-ups on delivery schedules, quality issues, and pricing inquiries
• Help analyze purchasing data, track spending patterns, and identify cost-saving opportunities to support strategic sourcing initiatives
• Participate in inventory management activities including monitoring stock levels, expediting critical materials, and supporting inventory accuracy efforts
• Assist in maintaining vendor records, updating purchasing databases, and preparing reports on supplier performance, lead times, and pricing trends
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and engineering to understand material requirements and resolve supply chain issues

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field
• Completion of at least sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) and experience with data management
• Effective communication skills with ability to interact professionally with suppliers, vendors, and internal stakeholders
• Basic understanding of procurement processes, supply chain concepts, or purchasing fundamentals

• Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) or procurement software platforms
• Knowledge of supply chain principles including inventory management, vendor management, and strategic sourcing
• Experience with data analysis tools or business intelligence software for tracking metrics and generating reports
• Understanding of contract terms, pricing structures, and negotiation basics in a procurement context
• Previous internship, co-op, or work experience in purchasing, supply chain, operations, or related business functions
• Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
