dormakaba is seeking a Purchasing/Buyer Intern based in Indianapolis, IN. This role will report directly to the Purchasing Manager. The Purchasing/Buyer Intern is responsible for supporting procurement activities, supplier coordination, purchasing operations, and cost analysis initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in supply chain management and strategic sourcing. - Assist in processing purchase orders, managing requisitions, and tracking order status to ensure timely delivery of materials and components for production needs
- Support supplier communication and coordination including follow-ups on delivery schedules, quality issues, and pricing inquiries
- Help analyze purchasing data, track spending patterns, and identify cost-saving opportunities to support strategic sourcing initiatives
- Participate in inventory management activities including monitoring stock levels, expediting critical materials, and supporting inventory accuracy efforts
- Assist in maintaining vendor records, updating purchasing databases, and preparing reports on supplier performance, lead times, and pricing trends
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and engineering to understand material requirements and resolve supply chain issues
What we require
- Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's degree program in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Completion of at least sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis) and experience with data management
- Effective communication skills with ability to interact professionally with suppliers, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Basic understanding of procurement processes, supply chain concepts, or purchasing fundamentals
What we prefer
- Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) or procurement software platforms
- Knowledge of supply chain principles including inventory management, vendor management, and strategic sourcing
- Experience with data analysis tools or business intelligence software for tracking metrics and generating reports
- Understanding of contract terms, pricing structures, and negotiation basics in a procurement context
- Previous internship, co-op, or work experience in purchasing, supply chain, operations, or related business functions
- Strong problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment
