The Department of Environmental Protection is looking for a Chemist 1 that will provide technical support to the quality assurance and safety activities required for the Bureau of Laboratories. In this position, you will be responsible for receiving samples, reporting results, and carrying out various tasks related to the Bureau's proficiency testing activities. This includes calibrating Bureau instruments and equipment to ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation standards as outlined in Bureau procedures. You will also participate in the annual evaluation of the laboratory's Quality System, assisting in the review and updating of existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for both analytical processes and Quality Assurance/Safety. It is essential to ensure that SOPs align with the TNI Standard and Chapter 252, maintaining clarity and precision in their language. Additionally, you will contribute to the annual assessment of the laboratory's NELAP Quality System, which may involve reviewing analytical SOPs, administrative policies, and the Quality Assurance Manual.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after successful completion of the probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• A bachelor's degree in chemistry; or
• A bachelor's degree that includes 30 credits in chemistry or biochemistry.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

Condition of Employment:

• This position requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license that is not under suspension.
