About the Job

This positing is for five distinct positions with the Bell Museum Summer Camps. Please review each role carefully; applicants may apply for more than one position.

Camp dates: June 22, 2026, to August 26, 2026

  • Position start date: Dependent on position. Coordinator positions start as early as May 21, 22026.
  • Position end date: August 26, 2026
  • Required staff training days: 5 days (30-40 hours) of training to be scheduled between June 12-18. Times will vary.

Working Hours: These are temporary appointments, working up to 67 days maximum per year, Monday-Friday. Most positions will work 40 hours/week, for 7-9 weeks, June 22, 2026 to August 26, 2026. The Summer Camp Assistant Educator position allows for full-time or part-time hours, based on stated preference, and the Summer Camp Resource Coordinator will work 30 hours/week.

Work Location: UMN St Paul Campus

Summer Camp Assistant Educator:
Pay Rate: $17.00/hour
This position involves assisting camp lead educators in creating a safe, age-appropriate, and positive learning environment during educational camp experiences centered on environmental science, natural history, and astronomy. Assisting lead educators includes maintaining cleanliness, set up and take down of activities, behavior support, and teaching one lesson a week. Other responsibilities include daily lunch tents set up on the field (weather permitting), assisting with check-in and check-out, and following all Safety of Minors policies.

Required Qualification

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Coursework in education, physical or natural science, or equivalent experience
  • Experience working with youth and adults in a team environment
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Must be dedicated, dependable, flexible and enthusiastic

Preferred Qualification

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate
  • Experience with environmental education and/or interpretation, science, education, astronomy, or youth studies
  • Experience working in a camp or after-school setting
  • Customer service experience
  • First Aid and CPR Certification

Position start date: June 12, 2026
Position end date: August 26, 2026
Hours: 40 hours/week, for 7-9 weeks in the weeks of June 22, 2026 to August 26, 2026 time period. Days off include June 19.

Summer Camp Lead Educator:
Pay Rate: $20.00/hour
This position is responsible for facilitating educational experiences centered on environmental science, natural history, engineering, and astronomy. Responsibilities include implementing the existing STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) curriculum, working in a team environment, mentoring assistants, and creating a safe, engaging, age-appropriate and positive learning environment for campers. Campers range from grades K-8 with camp sizes ranging from 12 (K) to 21. This position includes following all Safety of Minors policies.

Required Qualification

  • Minimum of two years in college studying education, science, or other related subjects, plus two years of experience teaching youth.
  • A minimum of two years experience leading children and carrying out curriculum in a formal or informal educational setting
  • Demonstrated understanding of basic science concepts, including astronomy and natural sciences
  • Experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds and learning styles

Preferred Qualification

  • B.A./B.S. in education, science, or other related programs
  • Master's degree in education, science or related field
  • Training or experience working in camps as a summer camp leader
  • Previous classroom teaching experience and/or possessing a teaching license
  • Experience working with youth and adults in a team environment
  • Experience in working with youth with special needs, (e.g. on the autism spectrum, have ADHD, or have anxiety and/or depression)
  • CPR and First Aid certified

Position start date: June 8, 2026
Position end date: August 26, 2026
Hours: 40 hours/week, for 7-9 weeks in the weeks of June 22, 2026 to August 26, 2026 time period. Approximately 30-40 hours June 12-18 for training week, and 8 hours during from June 8-11 to review curriculum (from home). Days off include June 19.

Summer Camp Resource Coordinator:
Pay Rate: $21.00/hour
This position works with the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator and other camp coordinators to form a leadership team while taking initiative in this role. This team helps to ensure that camp activities run smoothly, and that campers have the best experience possible. The position is responsible for coordinating resources and supplies needed for summer camps including the ordering, care, and distribution of camp supplies. This position requires skillful communication to interact with people of all ages in a friendly, appropriate manner, including with campers, guardians, staff, and the public. Other responsibilities include daily lunch tents set up on the field (weather permitting), assisting with check-in and check-out, and following all Safety of Minors policies. This position will provide support to camp educators, other staff and may include stepping in to teach classes on an as-needed basis.

Required Qualification

  • BA or BS in education, youth development, special ed, recreation, or related field experience
  • Experience working in a team environment within a camp or other non-formal education organization with youth ages 5-13
  • Strong organizational and inventory skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience in practicing effective conflict management
  • Must be able to lift and push 40lbs
  • Access to reliable transportation

Preferred Qualification

  • Experience in working with youth with special needs in a classroom or camp setting
  • Ability to organize time and work in a highly effective manner
  • Ability to clearly express ideas both verbally and in writing and be adaptable and dependable
  • Understanding the structure of camps in the details of this position and as a whole system and team
  • Experience managing data using Google Sheets and Google Workspace
  • First Aid and CPR Certification

Position start date: May 21, 2026
Position end date: September 11, 2026
Hours: 40 hours/week, for 10 weeks in the weeks of June 22, 2026 to August 26, 2026 time period. Approximately 24-32 hours per week between May 21 and June 12th (flexible schedule) and between August 26 to September 11. Days off include June 19.

Summer Camp Youth Support Coordinator:
Pay Rate:$21.00/hour
This position works with the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator and other camp coordinators to form a leadership team for summer camp. This person will use skillful communication to interact with people of all ages in a friendly, appropriate manner, including with campers, guardians, staff, and the public. Responsibilities include coordinating behavioral and emotional support for campers, creating and operating camp systems to remain in compliance with Safety of Minors policies and procedures, communicating efficiently and effectively with camp families and camp staff, assisting with check-in and check-out times, and following all Safety of Minors policies. This position will provide support to camp educators and may include stepping in to teach classes on an as-needed basis.

Required Qualification

  • BA or BS in education, youth development, special ed, recreation, or related field experience
  • Experience in education, youth development, special ed, recreation, or other related field experience
  • Experience working in a team environment within a camp or other non-formal education organization with youth ages 5-12
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to practice good conflict management skills when communicating with guardians, as well as with campers.
  • Experience in working with youth with special needs, (e.g. on the autism spectrum, have ADHD, or have anxiety and/or depression).

May 25-June 18 (flexible hours). Monday-Friday times may vary. Days off include June 19.

Summer Camp Satellite Coordinator:
Pay Rate:$21.00/hour
This position works with the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator and other camp coordinators to form a camp leadership team. This person is responsible for satellite camps, camps that have a home base on the St. Paul campus (outside the Bell Museum). The satellite coordinator ensures off-site camps run smoothly, and that campers have the best experience possible. Primary responsibilities will include behavioral support for upper elementary and middle school campers in conflict management, including listening and de-escalation. This position is also responsible for coordinating the resources needed for our satellite summer camps including the care and distribution of camp supplies to different buildings, and efficient and effective communication with camp families and staff. Other responsibilities include coordinating with check-in and check-out, and following all Safety of Minors policies. This position will provide support to camp educators and may include stepping in to teach classes on an as-needed basis.

Required Qualification

  • BA or BS in education, youth development, special ed, recreation or equivalent related field experience
  • Experience working in a team environment within a camp or other non-formal education organization with youth ages 10-13
  • Strong organizational and inventory skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $17.00 - $21.00; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
