Position Overview:

We are seeking a hands-on, customer-facing Applications Engineer with technical expertise to support our commercial efforts in biogas purification and other activated carbon filtration sectors, including food/beverage/chemical decolorization, water treatment, catalysis, and pharma processing. Primary responsibilities include understanding customer and business needs, developing and analyzing relevant data, presenting solutions to internal and external customers, and serving as the go-to technical expert for a variety of activated carbon applications.

Here's how you will impact Ingevity:

  • Grow Activated Carbon Biogas Upgrading Market
    • Provide in-depth knowledge of activated carbon media used for HS, siloxane, and VOC removal in biogas streams at existing and new customer sites.
    • Generate a knowledge database of customer site operations, requirements, and performance.
    • Assist customers with system design and troubleshooting
    • Assess customer requirements and translate them into product requirements
    • Collaborate with customers to maximize product performance at each site
    • Support filling and removing processes at customer facilities.
    • Conduct pilot trials and analyze lab/field data to optimize system design and, where needed, carbon products.
    • Collaborate with sales teams to support technical aspects of proposals.
    • Deliver training on activated carbon applications and system operation.
    • Working with Research, develop new products for customer-specific applications.
  • Increase Activated Carbon Adsorption Technology/Filtration Market Value
    • With Commercial teams, develop plans to upgrade activated carbon products for higher-value applications.
    • With customers and other sources, develop application expertise across all current adsorption technology/filtration markets to understand value propositions and how best to support customers.
    • Increase adsorption technology/filtration market-testing capabilities, both in-house and via 3rd parties.
  • Work with the Cross-Functional Team to Support Commercialization Efforts in Biogas and Filtration Products and Applications
    • Interact with the global quality department, manufacturing plants, and technical teams to resolve customer complaints and validate operational improvement projects.
    • Define or update material specifications through customer interaction.
    • Monitor industry trends, competitor activity, and regulatory changes
    • Identify and support opportunities as they come through the stage gate to expand Ingevity's product portfolio
    • Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and industry events
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with O&Ms, EPCs, and end-users
    • Align with sales on product marketing strategy

Here is what you'll need to succeed in this role:

Experience

  • At least 2 years of Industrial experience, or equivalent is required
  • Process/product development and technical knowledge in adsorption and related fields are desired.
  • Trace process lines in any facility; ability to read and understand P&IDs
  • Knowledge of biogas processing/adsorption technology must be mastered and used to provide technical support for customers.

Skills

  • Self-motivated, highly curious, problem solver
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a practical manner
  • Strong skills relative to customer contact and service, including excellent written and verbal communication
  • High competency for technical skills and data analysis
  • Strong documentation skills, with an eye for detail and organization
  • Able to deliver clear presentations to internal and external customers

Education

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field

Other Requirements

  • Travel as required by the job/workload, expected to be 10-25% domestically.
  • Ability to be hands-on during field and laboratory/pilot work, working with customers and technicians
