The Fabrication Engineering Group provides rapid fabrication, assembly, integration, and test of advanced hardware prototypes for national security applications. Examples include the precision machining of fiber mounts for airborne high energy laser systems, multi-functional structures using additive processes for ground-based radar systems, custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) for space-borne data processing, and highly integrated mechanical packaging for undersea communication terminals. The group concentrates on high-complexity parts, quick-turn capabilities and activities that require concurrent engineering with program teams. Core mechanical competencies span precision fabrication, additive manufacturing, and 5-axis machining. Core PCB capabilities include automated solder paste dispensers, precise pick-n-place machines, and automated optical inspection systems. Assembly, integration, and test capabilities include integration spaces, clean rooms, vibration testing, thermal testing, and space simulation chambers. The Group focuses on state-of-the-art fabrication, operational proficiency, technical excellence and exceptional collaboration.


Position Description

The Group seeks a talented, creative, and motivated individual to strengthen the Group's ability to provide rapid and innovative solutions to challenging fabrication problems. The successful candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to optimize and effectively implement digital solutions supporting technical and business operations. A unique aspect of MIT LL is that we develop prototype systems rather than high volume production. The role of the Digital Fabrication Engineer will focus on executing digital transformation efforts in the Group. The ideal candidate will effectively partner and work closely with the digital fabrication lead, technical leads and supervisors to define, plan and execute the installation of operational solutions for the Fabrication Engineering Group. Specific job functions may include:




  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, beginning with design and ending with realization of digital fabrication solutions to align the operations, technical capabilities, the data, and the IT systems
  • Support work with technical leads and digital engineering teams to document and define the Fabrication Group's digital needs
  • Work with software developers to set-up, test, and fix solutions before deployment
  • Provide hands-on training and troubleshooting support for users
  • Support enterprise digital engineering projects and initiatives from proposal to delivery
  • Optimize fabrication / procurement processes including supply chain management
  • Identify opportunities for digital process improvements and manage projects related to fabrication, procurement, and project planning
  • Develop and document best practices for digital fabrication processes
  • Work with teams looking to improve quality and on-time delivery


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, information systems or related discipline
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to thrive in team environment
  • Recognized self-motivator that seeks to continuously learn and challenge themselves
  • Ability to multi-task and drive issue to closure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills


Preferred Qualifications (not required)

  • Manufacturing experience in high mix low volume environment
  • Supply chain management experience
  • Six Sigma or Lean experience or certification
  • Proficiency in business process modeling and design
  • Change management experience and/or certification
  • Aegis FactoryLogix, Aras Innovator, and/or SAP experience



Must be a U.S. Citizen


Must have the ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance


Recent Graduate Hiring Range: $100,200 - $120,000

Experienced Hiring Range: $100,200 - $150,000
