AAAS has an exciting opportunity for a paid summer internship within our SciLine department!

SciLine seeks an Engagement Intern to support relationship-building and audience engagement efforts that help connect journalists, scientists, and content creators with credible scientific evidence and expertise. The successful candidate will contribute to partnership development, program design, and collaborative projects-particularly with content creators and Spanish-language news media. The intern will also support social media efforts that promote SciLine programs, resources, and collaborations. Working closely with SciLine's engagement and program staff, the intern will help advance SciLine's mission of enriching U.S. journalism with scientific evidence and expertise.

What You'll Do:



  • Support relationship-building with key partners, including news organizations, journalism networks, and community-based media by researching organizations, maintaining partner databases, and assisting with outreach, scheduling, and follow-up conversations.
  • Assist with the design and planning of engagement programs, events, and pilot initiatives
  • Help coordinate collaborations with content creators, including research, outreach, and follow-up communications
  • Support outreach and engagement with Spanish-language news media, including maintaining contact lists and drafting materials
  • Support content creation and outreach across social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter/X, and Bluesky
  • Conduct background research and compile briefings to inform partnerships and program strategy
  • Assist SciLine staff as needed with outreach, coordination, documentation, and other engagement-related projects


Minimum Requirements:



  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (or transitioning between the two) at a university/college
  • Strong interest in journalism, media engagement, science communication, or public-facing programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity and comfort with social media content creation
  • Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Comfortable working collaboratively in a mission-driven, nonprofit environment


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bilingual in English and Spanish not required, but preferred
  • Experience engaging audiences through social media for a nonprofit, newsroom, or mission-driven organization a plus



Internship Details

This is a remote internship, however, those in or near the D.C. area have the option to work from our D.C. office and attend in-person events, typically 1-2 times per week. This is a 12-week internship, which will run from June 1, 2026 - August 21, 2026. The anticipated initial rate of compensation for this position is$17.95 per hour.
