Key Job Responsibilities Welds load path components in flat, vertical, horizontal, or overhead positions. Needs to be able to Tig weld, Mig, Stick and braze on aluminum, copper, steel, etc. Ignites torches or starts power supplies and strikes arcs by touching electrodes to metals being welded, completing electrical circuits. Clamps, holds, tack-welds, heat-bends, and grinds load path component parts. Detects faulty operation of equipment and defective materials; notifies supervisors. Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments. Monitors the fitting burning and welding process to avoid overheating of parts, warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material. Examines work pieces for defects and measures material with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications. Recognizes, sets up, and operates hand and power tools common to the welding trade. Operates safety equipment Qualifications/Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred; or three years related experience and/or training required; or equivalent combination. Reading blueprints and drawings and taking measurements to plan layout and procedures. Setting up components for welding according to specifications.
